I just picked up a Rem 700 Classic in 257 Roberts. I have had several of these rifles in the past, in different calibers, but had forgotten what a sweet rifle they really are. Another good deal from my buddy "Why Not?" Ted. I haven't played with a Roberts in more than 20 years, looking forward to it.

Tell me more about this "classic" model? First I'ver heard of it. Any pictures of it to show it off would be nice too!
The "Classic" was a limited yearly run of one specific chambering, usually [but not always] an older more obsolete chambering. 257R, 300H&H, 300 Savage, 8mm Mauser, etc were among the ranks offered over the years. They were a std 700 BDL style rifle with gloss finish in a nice understated stock like the one I have here. This run was halted about 7 or 8 yrs ago.

Here's a list I found elsewhere ......

Quick question...the date code is that the first letter in the serial number? I have a supposed 7mm WBY classic I bought, but its drilled for sights. I never remember any of them having this done to them. I am thinking this was just a rem 700 standard bdl action and barrel dropped in a classic style stock...

Glad to hear it's in a Rem rather than an older Win 70 Featherweight, apparently the older W/F in the Bob was a bad combo for accuracy, according to Ed Matunas the book writer / rifle / ammo tester. You'll have fun for sure! I have the Bob in a Browning Micro Medallion and a BLR.

It is about as close as one can get without actually being obsolete, can't think of one factory that still chambers it, can you? Win quit making brass for it years ago, unfortunately.

Winchester ran some 1885's in 300H&H and 375H&H in 2010, believe Prophet River has a couple. I have the 300H&H version. Hornady and Federal still produce brass and loaded ammo.

Ruger no.1 and Cooper, both at Prophet River...
