Excuse my ignorance but are there any models of the Remington 700 that come with a detachable magazine or is that something you have to find in an aftermarket kit ?

There is, but limited cartridge selection, and none in the 07 catalogue in stainless, (unless you like thumbhole stocks )

Kwik Klip made a conversion for the older models as well.

I have a Remington mdl 700 BDL DM. Made from 1994-2005 or so. Nice rifle. You can easily have a good smithy to retro a clip into an ADL model. My father had it done and it looks and works great. The Big Green also makes their SPS in DM. The stock is noisy and ugly, the barrell is coated in rough black stuff, but the action is still remington and is still a sub-moa shooter.
