Rem 700 - Detachable AR Mags? Pics post 1. UPDATED post 48

Don't see a reason you would have to manufacture a new rifle. It has nothing to do with building a new firearm and magazine, just what magazine the rifle was designed for.

Anyways, I had a good discussion with the RCMP techs about the idea mentioned in this thread with my idea.

The same rule that applies to LAR-15 10 round magazines also unfortunately applies to any AR magazine used in another rifle. The 5 cartridge limit applies.

I already set up the epoxy mold and I am going to go ahead with the idea, despite the fact that the mag must be pinned.

Shame.

You just proved my point........

Cheers!

Yep, but I'm not surprised.

As the magazine body was designed and manufactured for an AR-15, it would need to be limited to 5 rounds, no matter how it is modified or what rifle it is used in.

Now if you were to design and manufacture a new magazine (say a 25 round one, it may or may not fit in an AR-15) specifically for this conversion, it would likely be legal.

Here is a thought for consideration of the DIY guys on this thread. American Eagle makes inexpensive plastic 10 round mags in either 308 or 30/06 lengths for the Remington 760/7600 pump rifles. These mags should be Canadian legal for the 760/7600 pumps but not the 742/7400 semi autos. It should be possible to fit together the top part of Remington 700 mag to the bottom part of one of these plastic mags for an el cheapo winer project.

I dont see the application really. I'd rather change mags every 5 shots then carry around all that extra weight. Plus I'd think makes the rifle a little un-wieldly looking if ask me (how does it feel?)

It doesn't quite work that way.

If the magazine was designed and manufactured for the 760/7600 pump rifle, there is no limit on the capacity, no matter what rifle it is used in. If the magazine was designed and manufactured for use in either the 740/7400 semi-auto rifle or 740/7400 and 760/7600 rifles, the limit is 5 rounds, no matter what firearm the magazine is used in.

So basically, if the 760/7600 magazine is indeed designed and manufactured for a non semi-automatic rifle, there is no limit on the number of rounds it may hold, even if you use it in a 740/7400 rifle.

So I finally got around to this idea again.

After a lot of talking with the RCMP, it turned out that even if the magazine is permanetley fixed to the firearm, it still can not be unpinned.

One door shut, another one opens. :)

Detachable AR magazines for a Remington 700 anyone?

It had a fail to feed or two, but that was due to my ackward hand position for the video. I have cycled that action at least 400 times with dummy rounds with only 3 or 4 malfunctions when the magazine was clamped in place at the correct feed angle, which is more then acceptable for my purposes.

(Note that this is only a one off to see if it can be done, I have no intentions to make more.)

The main draw back to this is our gun laws, all that work (and time!) and you could probably just buy the AI 10rd mag kit. Of course the RCMP isnt gonna be okay with having 30 rounds unless its a rimfire. Very cool project, I am definitely interested in seeing what the outcome of it is.
