Nothing to do with the barrel and action...

This requires grinding on the cocking piece and on the rear of the bolt and this alteration also affects the trigger in that future triggers may require re-fitting.

Spoke to him he can take a look tomorrow morning. No guaranties, last time I spoke to him years ago he was into building shotguns and related services.

I mean....you could just put the old spring back in right? It wasn't doing anything wrong before right?
Heavier springs do make cocking heavier, that's guaranteed, they are used to help with weak ignition (worn out spring) or speeding up lock time, which the 700 doesn't suffer from ever.
Might be another option.

I show to gunsmith at tacticalordnance what was my problem closing the bolt.
He told me how to diy, but when I got home and grab a jewellers loupe and look inside the bolt edges, I have discovered a dent that was rubbing against the pin assembly neck.
A little elbow greasing with my diamond file and polishing stones, and
problem solved.

Uhm, many things can happen when we buy second hand and don't know the history.
