I have a remington 700 SPS DM and would like to upgrade the stock. Is it possible to buy a stock that had originally been a hinged floor plate style and fit my DM bottom metal to it. If it will work how hard will this be and how much fitting will need to be done.

So assuming I have some skill with this sort of thing how much fitting is going to be required. Is doing it by hand a practical option to achieve a nice finish. I don't want to end up with something that looks bastardized.

It's really going to depend on your skills. If you can go slow and pay attention to detail it'll look fine. If not it'll look like a stock I bought once that looks like it was inletted with a sawzall. Use the right tools and go slow and deliberate and it should turn out good.

I'm sure it can be nicely done by handed with a Dremel and hand files.

I have done it or rather the opposite. I added the dam to a mountain LSS. very easy to do do. Only tricky part is matching the finish.
