Has anyone customized a 700 or variant into a 7 WSM? Because of the competition between 7 SAUM and 7 WSM, Remington isn't making any rifles in 7WSM. I'm thinking of contacting Francis Gaulin from Armtech to build me one, or simply getting a Sako 75 in 7 WSM.

I am having one made right now, I started the project about 6 months ago and have looked at Gaulin, and PGW and Nesika actions. I decided to go conservative and use a Rem700 in 300 WSM, the two cartriges are identical except that the 7mm is 35 thou longer from base to shoulder. Right now the Rem 700 in 300 WSM are cheap and a good source for an excellent starter action, I plan to go with a 1/8 twist barrel and shoot berger 180 gn vld's.

Have you changed the stock? I might follow your lead into a 300 WSM converted to 7WSM, although that means the 700P is out of the question. Perhaps it would be simpler if I had my rifle made, but which is more cost effective?

According to CFC, what happens to the rifle's serial number when you change the barrel and stock, keeping only the original action? (And changing the rifle's caliber too!).

Do you guys think there will be a feeding problem if I use a 300 WSM mag or should I get a convert done as well?

It will feed just fine. Have your read the article on Rick Horst's 7mmWSM. The article is on www.6mmbr.com. If I did not already have a 7mm STW being built I would have a WSm built for myself. I guess the more i shoot the STW the quicker I can have the wsm. If you are gooing to have any work done to the bolt accurizing wise. I would strongly suggest talking to Dave Kiff of Pacific Tool about the bolts he makes. For a few $ more than accurizing will cost you you can have a custom bolt. These are bolts used in the Stiller actions as well as in the Rem Model 40X.

Thanks for the info 6mm Shooter!

This would be my first custom, and I'm trying to gather as much info as possible, every help is appreciated!

I had one built, but started with M70 CFA action. Stock is McMillan A-5 and barrel is 3 groove LILJA. Trigger Jewel single stage, scope is USO SN-3, etc.

My load is WLRM, 62.5 VV N165, Winchester Brass, 180 Berger VLD.

Nice! How does it shoot? If I may ask, how much of an investment?

Investment: Around US$3000 without scope. I pulled the fifth shot on the right target. (Got over confident. ;) )

://[/IMG]Hello Chronos;
You are going to be a very happy person if you build gun in the 7mmwsm for me its the best cartridge out there, just one of those short stubby tackers.
I have one in Rem700 s/a with a 24" Hart Premium Stainless in a new style fluting, with a mcmillan stock,similar to Ric Horst's, and bolt trued as well action, by Robert Hart www.hartbarrels.com. his cousin www.rwhart.com sells them made up nice web site.this is the 4 th gun I have had made up over the years, this one shoots as tight as any or better and its a light hunter 6.7 lbs + scope. I instaled a Stubbs firing system I like fast ignition, and a Jewel trigger. Worked load with three powders WXR,Magpro & H4831s/c
it shot all good, but the H4831sc with nosler 140gr BT and used Patitions on a 200lb buck at 390 yards, it was like a lighting bolt, was just amazing, my brother shot what he called a "ace" under .125 he is a old benchrest shooter and a master at reloading. I have seen him take guns that other fellows had give up on, and made them shoot. I have some Lost River 140gr I loaded to try what I could do at 1000yards never shot at this distance but will give it a try, going to borow a scope from friend to try.
PM me for prices as I have to check.total I
