REM 700 or TIKKA T3 Varmint

Hey all. Thinking of building a new rifle. Now I know that Remington's quality hasn't been so great lately but you can sure make them good with some tweaking. Or would it be better to buy a Tikka Varmint which alreay comes with good action, barrel, and trigger? The only I would want to switch out is the stock on a Tikka, is that possible?
Also Tikka comes with a 24" barrel? I'm I loosing out by not have a 26"+ barrel in the 7mm Rem Mag? Thanks for the input.
 
if your set on 7rem i don't think the tikka varmint is chambered for it. buy a tikka if you want out of the box performance. go rem if you want to build a tack driver.
 
I am a Sako/Tikka guy at heart, but I must say the one Remington I have shoots good.

I have a feeling that with a Remington and the desire to build the ultimate rifle, you are simply buying an action. If that's the route you plan to go, buying a barrel, trigger, stock, have you considered Savage or Stevens? There's great aftermarket support for them and you could probably buy a used rifle or action only for around $300. I love my Tikka, but I don't plan to do a darn thing to it other than insert ammo and pull the trigger.
 
If you want a "never-have-to-do-anything-but-load-ammo" type of rifle, definitely a Tikka. They are outstanding. Accessories are expensive and can be hard to find sometimes, but outstanding shooters.

Remmy: some are just as good as Tikka, many are not. Outstanding actions on which to build though... Don't wast money on an expensive Remmy if this is the way you want to go. Cheap shoot the same as expensive.
