I am a little concerned that you actually have a picture of Pierce Brosnan in your photo bucket....

Between this and the Savage thread I am just happy nobody has asked to see a pic of your Cooper.... No place for Anderson on a gun form....

The Saga of the .280 Remington

In 1957 32 years after Winchester introduced the .270 Winchester, Remington introduced the .280 Remington cartridge and chambered rifles for it.

Due to the late introduction the .280 Remington (a superior cartridge) never became as popular as the .270.

In 1978 Remington thought a name change would help sales and shipped approximately 200 Model 700’s chambered for the .280 Remington but stamped 7mm-06 Remington. Ammunition was also made with the new name stamp. Confusion quickly spread concerning this name, as it is a different chambering than the wildcat 7mm 06. These 200 rifles were quickly recalled but not all were returned to Remington. Some (probably about 40) remained in private ownership.

In 1979 Remington changed the name again and produced 700’s chambered for the .280 Remington but now stamped 7mm Express Remington and ammuntion was marked the same.

That name also caused confusion with the 7mm Remington Magnum with not so knowledgeable shooters and so…

In 1981 Remington changed the barrel stamp back to .280 Remington and changed the ammunition stamp as well.

What a wasted effort on their part!

With nice wood to boot. Bet that one would fetch a pretty penny. I think it was discussed in the last thread, but how many made it out with 7mm-06 stamped on the barrel?

200 made it out and were recalled... it is thought about 40 remain in private hands. I read on a US site one sold for $3500 but I seriously doubt that.

Don't panic... the picture was there for only 60 seconds prior to my post... and will be gone once this thread has met its inevitable conclusion.

P.S - that is the only Remington that I have to contribute.

All good..... It motivated me to do something manly so I went out and sighted in my black powder gun..... You know, stuffed from the front and all... Lol.... FYI, you can post a link to a pic without actually having to host it yourself :)

Anywhoo.... Maybe I should put a pic of one of my 700's up or something.... Lol

Rem 700's seem to follow me home ;)

The custom .308 WIN and the .338 WM are my main hunting rifles.

I've had very good luck with 700's...these all shoot very well, although I'm not stuck on just Remingtons...my other hunting rifles are Win Model 70's (30-06, 7mm RM, .375 H&H)

700 .308 Custom on a '75 action, Benchmark barrel (action trued and barrel chambered/installed by Guntech), Trigger-Tech trigger, Kwik-Klip detachable mag kit, bedded etc.

I have some very nice Remington 700 Rifles. Guntech has built a couple, and Leeper has as well.
Also have a factory 700 with an awesome stock on it.
Pictures of some below. Dave.
700 Custom - 308 Norma Mag.

Factory 700 Classic, 8x57 [Moved this stock to my 7x57 now]

3 others: Top is a 6.5x55, built by Guntech, bottom is a 6.5x55AI [sorry it's a 721 Action...but close enough], also by Guntech. Middle is a Classic in 7mm Rem Mag.

M700 Heavy [Benchmark 1-8 twist 5R] Laminate heavy Varmint stock. By Leeper.

Many other 700's, but most are production BDL's, CDL's and Classics.

My switch barrel / bolt M700 SA RH in McMillan Hunter Classic stock with GAP Camo moulded in. Badger Ordnance M5 bottom metal. This rig has .223, .22-250, .260, and .308 barrels all ready to screw on and go hunting depending on the season. That's what you get when you have a limited budget and ADHD (hyperactive disorder). I cannot sit still... :)
