Rem 700 prob

I have a Rem 700 Sendaro that only cocks the firing pin about half the time and when it does not #### the safety seems to be jambed. Is this a common 700 prob, any ideas be fore I take it to a gunsmith.

The safety shouldn't move when the striker isn't cocked, that's normal. As for the striker following down; has anyone been trying to adjust the trigger?

That is very possible Dogleg, I bought it used from a guy that tinkers a lot. I am not crazy about the trigger on this thing, should I just get it replaced?

Rem 700s usually have a pretty good trigger once it's adjusted properly. I would just reset everything and try it again. - dan

I'd clean and set the trigger properly, and bet that the problem goes away.

X2. There is nothing bascally wrong with the Remington trigger, and they usually can be adjusted for a very nice pull. Sounds as if the one one your rifle has been messed with by someone who did not know what he was doing. the rifle is dangerous as is, you need to deal with this. But unless parts have been altered, the mechanism could be adjusted properly.

I'll second that site... it makes adjusting a 700 trigger pretty easy.

Or you can just get the Jewel. A properly adjusted Remington trigger with the trigger return spring changed to a lighter one is good, but it isn't a Jewel and never will be.
