Hello...

I'm new to precision rifles so I'll ask the experts.
I have an opportunity to purchase a Rem 700 300WM, L.A.
Stainless fluted barrel, thumbhole synthetic stock, with an adjustable bi-pod, and a 6-24 ill scope of unknown make. w/Drop down mag. The rifle looks in good shape and is very light.
Is it a good set up or is this just so-so? I cant tell. I'm not even sure if i'm going to over pay for it, or at least get a good deal.
Any oppinions would be appreciated.
I could post a pic, if I could figure out how to do it.
Thanks

Although I shoot a couple thumbholes they are not for everyone. Mine are on low recoil rifles thus no issue but I have read that thumbholes on a higher recoil rifle may not be the best. I would suggest that you get to hold it or preferably fire it before you purchase

I like thumbhole stocks, even my shotgun has one. I held it and it feels good, nice soft recoil pad also (I don't know if that's good), shooting, however, is out of the question.

The basics are there for a good build, find out the scope type and get us a pic and we can hopefully give you a round about figure. i have a thumbhole stock that fits me well, it is all personal preference.

No clue on the scope, no brand anywhere...it's a 6-24 ill reticle...glass looks clear, it's not a Leupold that's for sure. The barrel is not the thick one (not sure what that would be called). Action seems smooth and clean.

A Sendero is a heavy barrel, that looks a bit small, might also be an aftermarket stock. It might be an SPS stainless or similar that had been dressed up.

I think you should call the seller and get the particulars on it.

Impossible to give an accurate guess just looking at those pics.

Tell him to take good pictures of everything, and write down all the particulars and send that all to ya.

If he isn't able or willing to do that, I'd stay away from the deal, there are always deals to be had on here.

Small language barrier with the seller...lol...I guess I'm in a bit of trouble, with deciding to buy or not

Well I figured out what it is, still no idea on the scope or if the rifle is worth the buy.

I looked for the scope on-line, and only by shape and reticle I came up with this cheapy thing...although oddly it has great reviews.
The guy is looking for 700-750...

Not a terrible asking price, a less expensive Remington 700 is around the $579 mark, give or take.

Sounds like the price reflects what it is, as long as it is in good condition(bore, rifling, throat), I'd consider it. Could be a good base to build on.

I looked with a bore sight, the rifiling is good, the inside is dirty (not coroded, just dirty) action is smooth (also dirty), no idea what a throat is....it looks like it needs to be broken down and CLEANED. You say 'build' what does that mean, other than getting a good scope, what else can I do to make it better, I like the tactical look, but that's just look, and I really like this stock....btw, how far can a 300wm reach anyway?

It will likely out reach your skills. Is this your first rifle??

The 700 action and variants of it is the basis for many target and long range setups. Google custom gun builds, barrels, actions, etc......you'll find all the info you need, much easier than us trying to explain it all it garbled explanations.
