Rem. 700 SPS DM vs. SPS

I need some help!!! Cabelas.ca has two Remington rifles I am looking at.

1. Remington Model 700 SPS DM Bolt Action Rifle....on sale from $549.99 to $469.99!!

2. Remington Model 700 SPS Bolt Action Rifle....$609.99

My question....Is the only difference that the DM has the detachable magazine? If so, isn't that what you would want?

Both guns are in the 7mm Rem. Magnum

That is basically it. The DM has the detachable mag, while the standard has a floorplate instead.

As for which is best....depends on the user.

While I have 3 centerfire rifles with DBMs, I keep them because they are accurate, since I am not
really fond of DBMs on a Centerfire rifle. [I prefer the floorplate system, by far]

Another shooter may feel just the opposite, so that is mostly personal preference.

Yes that is the only difference. I prefer a rifle with a detachable magazine but I think I am in the minority. Many manufacturers don't offer a DM in any of their rifles. I have a couple SPS DM guns in different calibers and love them. If you are looking for a good rifle with a DM that is a great deal.

That's gotta be the quote of the day. I have both. So far, I have lost 2 mags with my Savage and one when I had my BLR. It's darn aggravating. Mags have a quicker reload, but right on the money, with never having to lose a mag with a floorplate. Also, extra mags are aweful expensive, relative to the original purchase price of a rifle - case in point your DM. Kinda like the injet printers - damn cheap for the printer, they get you with the ink!

Wouldn't the printer be the rifle, and the ammo be the ink? :) It's not like magazines are a wear item, just stop losing them! I like DM's, as long as it doesn't limit your ability to seat bullets far enough out for accuracy, if you're into that. I've never had a 700 so can't comment on it in that regard, but my X-bolt mag does not limit bullet length enough for accuracy to suffer, as far as I've been able to tell. I also have a floor-plate weatherby, and to me it's just a hassle if you have to load/unload your rifle multiple times a day during a hunt. I'm always dropping shells in the mud and making considerable more noise with it vs. the brownings.

I've also never lost a mag between the two BLR's and the x-bolt I use, and I see no reason to use that as an excuse. The bolt also detaches from these rifles you know, have you ever lost a bolt? :rolleyes:

Yep, this is true!

I am presently restocking my SPS/DM to a Choate tactical stock + rebarreling it to a switch barrel configuration.
The stock should arrive in a week or two.

I will have to fit the bottom trigger group/magazine frame to the stock. Very easy! Not very much material to move on this part of the adjustment at all!

But the issue is that I have to remove matreial from where the magazine release buttons are on the magazine. If you look at a DM stock, you will see the relief grooves on it.
No big deal, I just have to be careful and do a clean job, to make it look decent.
