Can some one whit experience confirm me if it's junk or not. I intend to be able (after some practice) hit an apple at 600m.

can it do it?
 
I guess my question was unclear for some. we are talking about the riffle only, the shotter part well... can you have a positive jugement whit out knowing the person beheind the triger ot have anny idea.

So let's reformulate this question how acurate this weapon could be at 300M and 600M, or would it be a waste of $ ??
 
Wow....an apple at 600m. Well, ya it can be done but the trick is to pull it off on the first or second shot. I'm sure if you peppered 20 shots at it one of them should hit it. That rilfe probably has MOA accuracy so that means at 660 yards you should have, if everything works well, a 6.5" group. I'm guessing that isn't accurate enough to hit that apple at 600m with any regularity.

With a handload that works in your gun, it is quite possible. I havent got to shoot my 700P out to 600m, but with handloads(bullets seated long to compensate for the long throat), I have fired som .3ish groups, consistantly.5at 100 yards, so it is possible if you do your part.
 
Dude, with practice and someone showing you the ins and outs of long range shooting, you can pull it off.

And listening to these guys that say you need a handload to hit that is wrong. Just get some good match ammo (preferably BTHP 175gr, I like Black Hills) and a good scope on that rifle. After that, the part of hitting the apple at 600m, well that's up to you now.
 
It could be done with the right optics. But set yourself a reasonable goal. An apple at 600 is like saying a bowling pin at 1800. You won't even see it unless you have the best glass you can get. Start with a 2 liter pop bottle at 200, then at 300 and work up from there. Evan that will be tough after 200 yards.
 
Depeding on how good the gun is, yes it is quite possible. Factory guns are ALWAYS a crap shoot (no pun intended) but don't get sucked into believeing that spending double that amount will guarantee better results. There have been some excellent results posted on here from SPS tactical and varmint guns. I have a totally stock SPS varmint that shoots .5MOA with hand loads. All manufacturers make their fair percentage of dogs too. Massed produced barrels are crude.
 
I contend that my five-word reply (although a bit too curt) is still the most reasonable. Extrapolating minute-of-angle math from 100 yards to 600 yards doesn't account for breezes and mirage and the rotation of the earth :) .

Sorry, but I have tried every kind of expensive match ammo I could find, nothing come close to handloads with my 700, due to the long throat, which requires seating the bullet long, whch you wont get in any factory ammo for legal reasons. Not only are the handloads far more accurate, but they cost me around 75 cents per round for match grade ammo, instead of 2.50 to 3.00 per round.
 
Some good advice posted here by others. Good optics and handloads that work well with your rifle are a must. And like Obunted said....factory barrels are a crap shoot but can still yield 1/2 moa if you're lucky. However, shooting a 3-4" apple consistently at 600m takes some practice regardless of your equipment.
 
If by apple you mean watermelon and by 600 m you mean 400 yards, then yes.

Even with precision handloading, good luck getting to that level with a factory rig. Possible but not likely.

But, then again, who woulda thunk ... a hundred years ago ... that a bunch of well-trained good ol' boys could be hitting Mars consistently? Or (40 years ago?) that M. L. King's dream would come true so rapidly and so dramatically?

I have both in .223 and .308
haven`t tried .308 yet (so it`s virgion), but .223, after breaking in, shoots .3-.4MOA (10 rounds) with 45gr Whit Box Win ammo (I know , it`s 1:9 twist, but...) :))))
 
My main concern whit that riffles his that I heard bad comment about the normal sps, I was wondering if anyone could have a fact about it. I am considering this riffle or a savage 10fp. I heard more good thing from the savage and they are about 200$ cheaper :) I am also considering the shorter barrel for hunting....

and I am aware that I won't bee hunting deer at 600M just before some one point it out :p
 
I just bought a SPS tac in 223. han't shot it yet, but the houge stock feels great and is very comfortable. the gun is also balanced very well. I bought it for $718 today at a store that had old stock. they also had a used one in great shape for $649. I willlet you guys know how it shoots as soon as I get it out.

I regularly get 3" groups at 600m with my stock Cooey .22:rolleyes:
