Recently saw some of these rifles for sale at an very attractive price. Has anyone had much experience shooting the SPS model.

1) trigger pull ?
2) Group size with factory ammo ?
3) Fit and finish

I have one in .22-250 and it originally had the lawyer-weight trigger. Luckily 700 triggers are fairly easy to adjust, so I did just that and now the trigger is much better. Or take it to a gunsmith if you're not comfortable with doing that. My rifle will shoot 3 shot groups of about half an inch to just under an inch.

I have no complaints about the fit / finish. It's about what I'd expect for a $500 rifle.

There was another thread about these rifles recently.

River Rat on the board here got one this summer for $499 from SIR in Winnipeg.

I have been with him at the range and it shoots great. All he did was adjust the trigger and take it to the range. Maybe he will post here and give you his experience with it personally.

This is another thread that gets discussed on a weekl basis here. Maybe should be a sticky!

[Well, at least were talking about a real Rem 700, though. Not that POS 710... ]

I have one in 300 Ultra Mag.Have no trouble making it shoot, fit and finish is good for a rifle of this price. Its just a Rem.700 without the fancy finish and polish. For $500 dollars it's a good buy.

I got on ethis summer in a .270 and it was really fussy w/ loads but I found one that it likes and get a 1 inch group if I do my part. I also fixed the trigger pull down to around 2.5 pounds.
I like the fact that I can go through the bush, toss it in the truck and really not worry about scratches and dings like I would if I had a Sako 75 or something like that.
Like what was said above, its a model 700 bolt action without the frills. I would buy one of these before those Stevens any day.

Cheers!!
