Hey guys,

I currently own a Rem 700 5R 308win with its factory X-mark trigger.

I find it to break clean, so I never could justify the 200-300$ for an aftermarket trigger.

However, it's growing on me to try an aftermarket one.

I had in mind one of these three companies, all similarly priced:
-Cadex;
-Timney;
-Trigger Tech.

Looking for some input from you guys... What are your thoughts on these and why ?

Triggertech

Pick the model in the weight range you want and you'll be happy. Canadian company and probably the most popular trigger in US precision rifle competition.

Oh! and they have awesome customer service!

X-Marks are ok... Timney, TriggerTech, and Jewel all good as well. But why not try a reworked and adjusted Original Walker style Remington trigger? Gunsmiths usually have them by the dozens and for $40, it’s worth a shot! If you’re not happy, then drop some coin on the aftermarket stuff.

I don't have them by the dozens and not for $40 either... I usually charge $50 to rework a 700 trigger, light, crisp and safe... many smiths can do that...

But the op wants to know about other options...

Op,
Depending on your intended use 7 budget-
Cadex-I have not had one in hand.
Timney-forward falling sear/non repeatable JUNK
Tubb T2K- 2 stage,overpriced,Mim'd JUNK
Trigger Tech-simple,repeatable,single "click" adjustment & Canadian
Jewell HVR-stainless,w/ & w/o levers,repeatable,fragile at 2X cost of a Trigger Tech.
BixnAndy Tac Sport in 1 stage or 2 stage w/or w/o levers-$400+ CDN
BixnAndy Competition-awesome,2 stage-$450+ CDN

A per 2006 M/Walker trigger group once re-worked by a competent 'smith is a repeatable trigger, but other aspects that need modifying help it's operation/function.

I have a TT diamond and a Timney Calvin elite. They both adjust into the ounces, but the trigger tech goes lower if that’s your goal. Besides that, they’re both very similar, but still different. At this point, I’d say you can’t go wrong with either. I’ve only been to the range a couple of times with the trigger tech though and am just getting used to how it breaks.
The older Cadex dx2 was a decent trigger. I didn’t care for the dx2 evo though. The evo can be switched between single and two stage. Unfortunately, it didn’t do either well for me.

Dennis, your option is one of the best going and the price is hard to beat.

I'm a big fan of TriggerTech, have them on all my bolt guns. Have always run single stage "Specials" with the flat shoe but have recently been using the 2-stage (both Special and Diamond) and really liking them. Decide if you want a single or 2-stage and then pick how low of a pull weight you'd like. Personally I like the flat shoe option as I run chassis' and feel the flat shoe complements a vertical grip well. A curved shoe tends to complement a traditional stock better but that's all personal preference.

Regarding Jewel.. This is not factual.

I believe the going rate for a Jewel HVR in Canada is around $390.
A Trigger Tech Diamond directly from Trigger Tech is $345.
I am not sure where to find a Diamond for $195... but if you know, please share (could make a healthy profit).

Not sure why you think it is fragile.
I have had my Jewel on factory 700 and it is now on my Defiance Action for F Class.
It didn't need any servicing (or a cleaning) until about 7,000 rounds (combined over both rifles).

I have a Trigger Tech Diamond on my black rifle... its is an excellent trigger on that platform.

Never tried a TT on a 700 ... but I'm unsure if it can go as low as Jewel's 1.5 oz pull ?
It may or may not perform as well a Jewel.

Trigger TECH is the BEST Buy and they are Excellent triggers ! I have a FEW of them and a FEW Timney's too BUT the TT are the BEST buy in MHO ! RJ

"Best" is subjective.

Personally I think that BnA has much better features incorporated into it then TT triggers, I got rid of my TT once I tried a BnA. Particularly the ability for the end user to time their trigger to their action with the sear engagement adjustment along with the different height top sears. It's a clever feature that really allows you to optimize the interface between the trigger and the action, which can have a dramatic effect on the function and "feel" of an action.

TT's are undoubtedly great triggers, I can see why people like them. They are in the top tier of triggers, but to state that they are the stand alone best trigger is subjective at best.

$390 CDN for any Jewell is ridiculous & should make any TT more rewarding.
Blank 1 primer w/ a Jewell & the mid lever lower tip will break & render the trigger group as useless as tits on a fish.

I am not too fussy with triggers however original Remmy are outright lousy after using a Tikka trigger. Timney's were ok 'ish but still not Tikka. In the meantime I have settled on Triggertech. I have two 1.5-4lb Triggertechs which seem ideal for hunting. Love em.

ps. my remmy last weekend. West coast Ireland.

LMAO... this is not factual. Just opinion.

Except for "fish having tits is useless" that probably is an iron clad statement, but unfortunately marine biology has nothing to do with this thread.

In your 1st post you made the claim that Jewels are X2 cost of Trigger Techs .... then I called BS on your statement (and its easily provable your statement not even close to being true).

Makes me think that most of what you claim regarding other triggers is spurious as well.

I have Trigger Tech and Timney and both have been great. I would probably lean to Trigger Tech just to support local. Having said that I've been lusting after a Jard single set trigger for my 700 - ounces "set" and 2 lbs. without being set. I have a ZKK 601 with a single set trigger and love it
