Rem 700 VTR What kind of accuracy are you getting?

I'd avoid these triangular barrels. See a link below to a Snipershide article on these rifles.

While I haven't owned one, I have tried to help a friend get his VTR to shoot well. We never found a load that worked. The best it would achieve is MOA.

The Remington action is fine. These barrels seem to be the issue.

Thanks that was educational, starting to rethink thing now. My LGS was telling me they have upgraded a few things over the past year, but now I know a little more as to what to look for.

I have the 308 LTR as well. Shot the federal fusion 165 under a half moa for sight in. The first load I put together with Hornady 168 HPBT and 44.5 Varget is holding 1/2-3/4 minute to 500m. Swapped the trigger due to the recall and ended up changing the stock to a B&C just cause I wanted a bigger palmswell, but a great rifle. Nothing wrong with stock remingtons. Had an SPS that shot great too. I would look seriously at the XCR instead of the VTR though. Triangle barrels are a fad and plastic stocks are junk. The XCR has a B&C on it and a fluted barrel.

I have a VTR in 223, and really can't complain at all.
Accuracy with the factory plastic stock was horid, but improved a lot when I put an HS precision stock on with the full bedding block.
I really think the stock was far worse for accuracy than the barrel.
I know you're looking for a 308, but thought I'd share. I'm getting pretty cconsistent 3/4 moa out of it with good handloads, and much better when I do my part.

I had a VTR in .308. It was finicky until I hogged out the stock and free floated the barrel. Shot like a house on fire after that. Fell on hard times and had to sell it, I kick myself daily... But now I bought a 5R in .308, dropped in an MDT TAC21 chassis and am delighted!

How do you like the TAC21? I'm actually thinking of putting one on my VTR in.308 when I can pull the cash together. I would have to agree with everyone on how crappy the stock is. I haven't started reloading for this rifle in particular so I'm sure once I swap out the stock and and start tailoring loads for it, groups will start to shrink

Love the TAC21!! Pretty heavy rig though. About 16 pounds with a Nightforce 8-32X56 scope, PRS butt stock, bipod, and loaded 10rnd mag. Very stable and rigid. Getting 1/2-3/4 MOA out to 500m shooting prone off the bipod, no bags.
