Rem 700 VTR

i think its an awful lot of extra money for what is basically their low-end SPS with 3 very expensive flutes.

i would either step up to $950 for the 700 VSF with the superior HS Precision stock, or ~$770ish for the 700 VLS with a laminate stock. both guns are not of the SPS line so they will have better fit & finish.

i handled that triangular barrelled creature the other day.. remington was so cheap they used a regular round channel stock w/ the flat underside of the barrel. unless you like your rifle to smile at you all the time it just looks like pure cheese.

maybe its supposed to be a constant reminder remington is laughing at us for buying into the gimmick.

now watch that tri barrel shoot straight as a laser beam..lol

Handled it yesterday, dont like the plastic sps style stock the triangle barrel ain't all its mocked up to be either, marketing scam to get some one to buy a different rifle

still goes bang

I have a VLS 6mm, kinda tired of lugging it around. I'm looking for something lighter and thought the VTR might be it, but it isn't sounding that good so far. I don't want another heavy barrel and will probably sell the VLS when I find something else.

I have one. They will shoot. I have managed 1" groups with factory 165gr ammo with stock trigger. I am going to bed it this week and load up some 125 noslers. I will be adjusting the trigger as well. The fit and finish are good and the overall balance is great. Consider it a varmit rifle you can carry. It was $719 at WSS try and find a good rifle at that price. I don't think the SPS has the same trigger, the VTR has the new X mark. Why don't you poor fellas who got suckered into buying a fricking savage find something else to harp about.

My friend just got a Rem 700 VTR in 22-250 and I have just shot it yesterday and it does shot good it takes some time to get used to the look and feel but for a gun under $750.00 not bad at all.

Got one in .223 the other day, i have been developing loads for it all week! first thing I did was adjust the trigger much better than the old 700

So far it really likes nosler 40Gr Ballistic tips with some H335 or BL-C2

I even had 2 sets of groups at less than .5 @ 100yds not bad for an outof the box rifle...

mods in the future
make it a true floating stock
perhaps some bedding
develop some loads in the 69-73gr range to help buck the wind

but she shoots pretty good!

I am pretty happy with mine. It is going totake me some time to work out a good load for it but bedding it sure helped.

did you duse a dremel tool to remove the tabs on the inside of the fore end prior to bedding?

Did you glass the the action only, or the entire length of the stock?

Bedding it really did help huh. I read in an artical that bedding wouldn't really help it out to much and was gonna go on that. Just go's to show you really cant trust what you read in these magazines.

It was stringing verticaly before. Now it shoots round groups. Round groups that need to be smaller, but round groups. But it was windy last night. The bedding also helped get rid of some flex in the forestock that I didn't care for.
