rem 700

Instead of spending the extra $300-$400 on the XCR, just get the sps and keep it cleaned/maintained and you'll have no trouble;)

The SPS has a much coarser finish on it, while the XCR is polished w/a corrosion inhibiting coating on it.

Instead of polishing, it appears that Rem simply bead blasts the SPS action...knocking off the burrs and bumps in one simple process.

Still equally as functional, just arguably not as pretty.

As for the stock... as far as I can tell the SPS is the same as the XCR with the exception of a rubber overmoulding in the areas one would normally find checkering in the grip/forend.

Accuaracy/function wise... same rifles though.

The SPS is a hell of a value!

SPS probably doesn't come with that wonderful safety video.

They both have plastic POS stocks. XCR has rubber overmolded (glued) to the usual checkering area's. Better finnish on the XCR but no functional difference.

I agree with supercub, the XCR is overpriced. My 15 year old stainless has never rusted, so why would I need the anti-corrosive coating ?

Get rhe SPS SS and be very happy.

Because it's for "Extreme" conditions where Stainless Steel would simply crumble into Rust

Can't say anymore then that.
Same Plastic Stocks...as mentioned the XCR has Rubber glued into the grip area reliefs and some snazzy coating on the Stainless.
Overpriced IMO..........
Get the Titanium instead if you want to Waste some Cash:)

The stock on the sps is hollow and makes a loud noise when sticks touch it in the bush. You can quiet it down with some spray-in insulation. I used pink house insulation, so I can remove it at any time. But the stock is quite loud when empty. Anyone selling a 700? You can never have too many, IMHO

Ok, so at wholesale sports the xcr is $869, bdl ss is $759, the sps ss is $599 in the same calibre, I can see the xcr difference with the "corrosion control system", but the bdl vs sps? Seems like a different shine on the barrel, and prettier (but still synthetic) stock. I can't get the difference either. I bet if you take out all 3 to the range, they would all shoot the same. But....if you buried the xcr in a salt pit, and covered it in battery acid, it would still be nice and shiny, well worth the extra price...I hunt in a lot of salt pits.:dancingbanana:
