Looking at a 700p in .308 wondering if there are supposed to be any markings on barrel or receiver relating to the police model. Are all P's parkerized or do they use any other coatings? Just wondering if this is a build or an original.

No particular markings that designate it as a 700P. They are all parked though, and sport an HS Precision stock... I know it doesn't help much, but that's what I've experienced with the few that have come and gone in my possession...

hsld.

Police model has no identification marks on it....
you can figure out if it`s parked, has black colored bolt and HS stock (google the police model and compare)....heavy barreled....

I have a 700P in 223 and one in 308 they have no markings indicating 'police' though the 'park' finish varies quite a bit from the one model to the other....

If you've never actually held one then you probably won’t be able to tell if it's a 700P or a SPS Varmint with the HS stock. The park quality on the 700P is evident if they are side by side otherwise you would have to know it well enough to know the dif.

Do you know enough to know that you don't know? Or do you know? :runaway:

Sakoboy that is exactly what i was wondering. I am not sure if it is the decreasing finish quality of remingtons that I am noticing or some one put a H-S stock on a sps varmint, but then again does it really matter?

Odds are, if it has the HS stock with the fat palm swell, it's a 700P.

Like most have mentioned... a 700 is a 700 is a 700. If you like the parked finish, and the price is good, buy it!!!

FYI, the new XCR's are NICE!!!!!! The new triggers may very well be the BEST factory triggers I have ever pulled, and are completely adjustable down to about a pound and a half. Also, the Bell & Carlson stocks are way nicer than the HS ones. The XCR Compact is my next build up base.

A 700 is a 700 is a 700... but!!! I'm not sure what Remington is putting on the SPS rifles but it's not the same quality as the park finish on the 700P that's for sure.

Purchased NIB, the box will indicate Remington 700 Police - .308 Win. It will be sporting an HS-Precision stock with palm-swell and larger/flat fore-end with double sling studs. The entire gun is matte/parkerized / 26" barrel...

And a 700 is NOT a 700, they are different types of quality in models, just like an 870 Express & an 870 Wingmaster. An SPS is not the same quality as the Police models.
