I found a rem. 710 in 30-06, on the Buy and extange forum, and i was wondering what ya'll think about it. I am looking for a deer rifle in the 100-300 yard shooting range, he is asking $450 for it. let me know what you think

Most places sell these brand new for under $400. The scope is the bottom of the barrel for Bushnell...

It should be clear by now that the best bargain basement rifle on the market is the Stevens 200. The Remington 710, Mossberg 4X4, and some of the other junk out there need not apply.

My best advise remains to check out the quality used rifles from Tradex, where for the same money you can get a superior product made by Husqvarna.

You can do a lot better for less money. There are far better rifles listed in that range. Most places sell these brand new for under $400. The scope is the bottom of the barrel for Bushnell...

NAA.

I have to agree...it's not the best made...etc...we all know this...but I did buy one a fews years back....and still have...camo model .30-06...I have to admit..I personally have not had a real problem with this rifle...Mine happens to have a very smooth light trigger, and is extremely accurate...up to par with my 700. Who knows...Maybe I got a very rare OK one out of the rest of them. but i would still agree with everyone else...go try and get a stevens or something similar....

Its too bad they have a poor receiver/bolt design. A couple weeks ago I watched a 710 in .270 shoot a 10 shot sub-moa group, with cheap federal's...But its not all about accuracy is it...

Nope..not all about accuracy...lol..If they just had to spend a little more money on the bolt/receiver as mentioned, and an actual trigger guard:confused:....They may have ended up with a bit better of a rifle..

well i am glad i asked.

I also found a new model 700 on sale for $799. should I?

Maybe. For many variants of the 700, that is probably a good price new. But the basic 700SPS has been offered new at regular retail prices a bit less than that in the last few years, so you might want to shop around some more if it's one of those. Of course, anyone can offer a lower list price on something, but it may come down to who actually has the item in stock or is able to get it when you want it.

I don't care for the 700 myself, (partly because I don't like the Remington company generally,) but it is a great design and has been the industry benchmark for decades because of it. If it feels good in your hands and fits you comfortably in a natural firing position, you will probably do well with it.

I ended up callaround to the local gun shops and i found a Tika t3 light stainless in 30-06 for $719. I know its going to kick but for the price i couldnt go wrong. he also said he would thow in a bushnell 3200 3-9x40 so $150. so all in all i am looking at $1000 total package , I cant complain there
