rem. 710 30-06

I ended up callaround to the local gun shops and i found a Tika t3 light stainless in 30-06 for $719. I know its going to kick but for the price i couldnt go wrong. he also said he would thow in a bushnell 3200 3-9x40 so $150. so all in all i am looking at $1000 total package , I cant complain there

That's a better investment for sure...

Here is another great deal too http://www .wholesalesports.com/storefront/hunting/firearms/bolt-action-rifles/t3-hunter-300wsm-stainless-package-with-burris-scope-and-rings-base/prod273224.html

Tikka stainless T3 in 300 WSM, scope and rings for $1200. I know it might be a little expensive but as most people here can vouch for sometimes it's worth saving your pennies and get something you'll like right off the bat.

I have a Rem700 and I'm quite happy with it. AFAIK the 700 line is of good quality. I was say go ahead and get one but CHECK REMINGTONS SITE! They have full descriptions and MSRP! Usually the rifles would have sold for around or maybe slightly more than the listed US MSRP so that gives you a good guideline.

When ever a rifle comes with a Bushnell scope, if it's not a 3200 or a 4200 it's 9 times out of 10 gonne be a $100 POS.

Buy a rifle Without a scope if you're not sure. You'd be better off getting a brand new scope to put on a rifle that you got for a good deal. Then you know exactly what you're dealing with.

That's just my .02 and I've done more than one EE and used rifle deal.

Ok, so I've had a 710 30-06 for a few years. I spent those few years living in onterrible, while the rifle lived in BC, so I've never gotten to hunt with it, or do more than put about 20 rounds downrange, so I'm not too familiar with it.
Mine was a gift so it's not like I'm in the hole for it, but neither can I really sell it.
What's so terrible about them, mine seems fairly accurate, but like I said, it hasn't seen alot of use, are there things I should be looking out for or what??

Yours may work as well as it should but they did have a rate of quality defects that was significant and that means they weren't a good bet. Too many people reported bolts jamming and bolt handles breaking.

They seemed to be Remington's answer to the market challenge of Savage's 11/111 model-based scoped package guns that introduced so many novice shooters and hunters on tight budgets to a happy experience with the Savage brand, which meant many of them were much less likely to come to worship at the altar of Remington's 700. But the 710s weren't consistently as good and the MSRP was a bit more than the Savage, so they weren't really a very convincing argument. And then Savage brought out the Stevens 200 and Remington brought out the basic SPS version of their 700, which is what they should have done in the first place. There's just no very good reason for the 710. They tried to improve it and leave the stigma behind by changing the model name to 770 but it still begs the question, why not buy a Stevens 200 for less or save up and get Remington's real rifle, the 700?

If you bought it, I think you made a wise decision and got a pretty good deal. Enjoy!

Compare it side-by-side with a 700 and you'll have no more questions. The term "chunk of plastic" comes to mind.

I found a rem. 710 in 30-06, on the Buy and extange forum, and i was wondering what ya'll think about it. I am looking for a deer rifle in the 100-300 yard shooting range, he is asking $450 for it. let me know what you think

Don't even consider the 710. For $450 you can buy a brand new Marlin XL7, which is an excellent rifle.

I agree the 710 is a piece of junk, occasionally one is good.....occasionally. Now the 770 on the other hand , I happen to own one in 300 WM , nothing wrong with it , nothing at all , the only problem the 710 had was in the machining, the bolt was too tight in the sleeve and a few other machining related problems , which they fixed in the 770, but by the time they fixed the probs with the 710 the damage was done . They then changed the model to 770, to give it a fresh chance , and it has no problems, design is just fine, machining was improved and problems were eliminated. It's a fine addition now. and i might add is STILL sold , only the 710 was eliminated. don't get me wrong , I'm NOT a remington fan by any means , but the 770 is a good rifle, enough so that I bought one and like it , and I know quite a few other owners and nobody is unhappy with them, That I know of .

You could also go to Tradex and pick up a Husqvarna commercial Mauser for a pittance.

Yank the bolt up real hard and try to work the action fast. Most of them will stop until you work them more gently.

The 770 and 710 use the same basic design, there are no major design differences between the two rifles.I do like Remingtons, but I would never own any rifle with a pressed in barrel, and that includes both the 710,and the 770.

well I'm headin to the range in an hour or so, so we'll see how it is, if it sucks, I guess it's into the back of the cabinet and I'll just have to buy a BLR.

Accuracy of new rifles hasn't been the issue, most shoot decent groups. The issues are the bolt binding, and long term reliability due to the inferior(cheap) design.

Yes..Yes i am...I also have a 700 BDL Stainless with black synthetic in .30-06..(Thats why I'm selling the BAR).. in the end for me..most of my guns are meant to be used..The BAR (With it's finish etc.) is just too nice in my opinion to be used for hunting here in Newfoundland. Mine you..I do take extremely good care of all my firearms, but there is just something about that BAR. That when I got it....I realized that It would break my heart if and when the time came that it got scratched up, dropped, etc..in the thick woods/bogs and marshes that we have here in Newfoundland. Plus...I do much rather a bolt-action...the BAR is still unfired...

The 700 is/will be my main gun, and the 710 is my back up mostly..i'll also use it when the weather is very foul..I don't value it as much as any of my other rifles/shotguns..As it was alot cheaper..It's been a great shooter for me, functions ok, and I shot my first moose with it. Also..My father/some uncles don't own any firearms...so when they get a big game licence I let them take that one for sighting in and hunting with.. Basically..I don't worry about the 710. It's rugged, was cheap, and does what I ask of it. It's what I expected in a rifle for the price...

Anyway..sorry for the story..just thought i'd explain that..
