Rem 710 7mm mag

Well, I've already posted a few times about this rifle. My bud got one in 270. The scope was not bore-sighted as advertised so I adjusted it for/with him. Later Remington put out a recall for the safetys, so he had to send it in for some work. His brother in law also bought one and it was covered with rust when he took it out of the box. The 710 shoots strait, but is cheap. My friend replaced the recoil pad on his with an R3 for greater comfort when at the range (add that to your "low price" tag). When the time came for me to buy a "cheap" rifle for varmint use, I chose a Steven's 200. It got thumbs up from me and all my hunting partners...
No, it's not. It's a BAD GUN. The fact that is may be good ENOUGH for your needs does not make it a GOOD gun. It's one of the worst on the market, if not the worst.
However, I think it really says something when the worst gun on the market is still good enough to do its job

ok, about the gun.when i first got it i lubed the piss out of the bolt,and cycled it for about 2 hrs. it was a little tight.yes it was bore sited,not as close as i would like it,so i dialed it in,it took 9 shots + 4 extra on a different target,just to make sure. the stock is plastic. so, i don't plan on dropping it. i like the look of it, not a wood guy.when i bought it,i held it up and it just fit ME(it felt so comfortable,i didn't have get into shooting stance).i know people who buy syn/stocked gun's and replace it's stock with a aftermarket one's,what ever make you happy. i do a lot of walking in the bush,for hours,this gun is easy to carry(no sling for me).the scope is 100$ scope(not a leupold,i have better scope's on some of my 22's).but it gets the job done.i dont understand why some people think its a bad gun? you put the clip in,cycle the bolt,pull the trigger. if you need to tell you self that you spent 2500$ an got you money's worth,keep living in that world.the most $$ spent is not always the best,if you have to justify it to your wife,ok.the rem 710 is not a browning. as for shooting running animals,i shoot coyote's.they don't stand still(they move very quick too) if you can hit them, the deer are much easier.i'm a meat hunter to so i do not want to wreck any meat,i shoot (aim) for the head/neck.period.this is how i have done it for years.for all you guys that want get rid of your bad 710's just send them my way,oh yeah that's right you don't own one,your friend of a friend has one. i bought one tryed one and liked it.it's not as nice (looks) as my other rem700's, browning blr or stalker,but it works just the same.i'm not as worried if something should happen to the 710 as the others(i'm only out 400$. 300$ if the scope is still good).it's a cheap $ gun. I LIKE IT but that's just me.

That does'nt make my info/experiance with the 710 invalide (I did shoot it a few times and I hunt with the guy). Usually you read up on a car, then test drive it before you buy it. But what if you find you don't like it as much as you thought and decided to go for something else, could'nt that information be usefull to another person?
That beeing said, it's his first rifle and he was on a budget. He likes his just fine and he did bag a couple of nice deer with it...

a friend of mine has one, he is satisfied with it. he realizes what it is, but it fits the use he has for it, he doesn't hunt that much and mostly has some milsurp rifles. i was a little torqued when he bought it as at that time i was selling an old style ruger 77 in 7mm RM (same calibre as he bought).
i wouldn't buy one, but i also wouldn't buy a rem 700, or browning a-bolt, tikka T3, or lots of other rifles, not where my interest lies.
to my way of thinking they are a $299 (at the most) rifle complete with scope.

From what I've read, Remington has discontinued the Model 710! 
Supposedly replacing it with the Model 770??? Not sure if it is just a 710 with a new name or what? With the price of the Model 700 SPS, who would be nuts enought to buy a 710 anyway?
