Would a rem 700 bolt fit in a 722 action , I was reading on a forum where a guy said they were the same .
A friend of mine has a 722 action with a 223 bolt face and would like to buil a 22 250 I suggessted getting the correct bolt rather than open up this one.

If they swap out is the bolt handle the same sweep.

722s do not have the guide cut in the right hand locking lug that all but the earliest 700s have. The presence of the 700 slot would not matter in a 722 receiver.
700 handles sweep back, 722s do not. The 722 stock will need minor inletting.
A .222 receiver will not have quite the same machining of the feed lips as one for a mid sized boltface cartridge.
So, yes, a 700 bolt can be adapted to a 722 receiver. It will be necessary to insure that the lugs seat properly.

Thank you tiriaq I will pass this on to my friend and see what he thinks about the bolt handle sweeping back.
I think he mentioned something about the 722 fitting in a 700 stock so maybe the 700 bolt will be a good thing after all.

A good thing about substituting a M700 bolt, is that the 722 extractor is no longer available. Break one, and it is a problem.
