Hello,
I am aware of the rail problems for 742 woodsmaster, but have also heard of guys very happy with their 742.

Whats your thoughts, a 1975 to 78 Rem 742 in .243 very good condition, used little for 300 bucks??

I value any ones input.

I have worked on alot of 742's through the years and have found consistent problems with the 30-06 parent cased rifles. I have not seen the flaw with the shorter round (308 based case). Major problem would be dirty chamber. Have someone inspect the rifle that knows the inherent flaw of the 742.

Not as common on the short action rifle but could still be an issue check for chatter marks on the guide rail in the receiver if there is even a minimal amount pass on the rifle. My experience with 742 comes from being a Remington warranty Smith.
