I have a Remington 742 in 6mm and I'm trying to find a coyote load that doesn't destroy fur. Or any coyote load for a 6mm for that matter. I like te 70gr nosler ballistic tips and have Varget and imr 4895 on hand. Any loads or points to start off of? I tried some but didn't have the accuracy I wanted. I need 2" or better at 100 yards.

EDIT: Opps sorry, for some reason I was thinking 243. There is 6mm rem data.

I know 6mm and 243win and pretty close.

I blasted a coyote with a 100g partition at 30yrds
Threw both shoulders. One little hole in and out. The shoulders on the other hand were fubar'd.

For no pelt damage you want somthing that holds together like a solid deer bullet.
Or somthing that gernades in side and don't exit.

Personally I am a fan of of solid deep penetrating bullets for everything but gophers.

I have the nosler data but it doesn't help me. My
Guns a 22" barrel with a 1:9 twist. I'm getting about 3" groupings with 36gr 4895 and 70gr nosler ballistic tips. Maybe I'll just play around a little more. The 100gr soft points I factory shoot would probably do fine if you don't hit bone.

Why won't the Nosler data help you? What else have you tried other than 36 gr 4895? Barrel length & twist differences in your case with the bullet you're using won't make a lick of difference.

Regarding the bullet, experience has shown me that yes, NBT's shoot & kill very well but fur friendly they are not! Just my two cents...

I've tried 55gr noslers (2 different ones), the 70 gr noslers and some hornady vmax. Only powder I can find is Varget and 4198. I started at my minimum and worked to my maximum, checking for pressure signs. 1gr increments and nothing was great. Cleaning every 30 shots and then doing a handful to fowl the barrel after cleaning. The crown is fine and with factory 100gr blue box federal ammo it shoots 1" 5 shot groups at 100 yards.

Finding a load is more then just bullet and how much powder.

Make sure your brass is trimmed
Same brands
Consistent crimp
Play with your COL helps a lot. But with a semi you are limited.

Maybe you are over sizing your brass and having some head space issues.

1grain increments is a big gap. IMO. 30-06 and up I use .5grain.
My 243 I did .3 grain

Agreed. I've seen distinct nodes in 22-250, .243 & .260 testing with only 1 to 1.2 grain spreads. Chop your charges up into at least 1/2 grain increments & try again.

It is possible that your machine just doesn't like light bullets. Once you exhaust more options with your lighter bullets, try something heavier. Even though they may not be what you initially wanted, they may be just as effective.

Also, quit cleaning. Each 30 rounds is way too much. If you were shooting a tight, small bore bench rest rifle, maybe. MAYBE! If you're happy with 2 MOA, I'd say you should be good through 400 rounds. Try it & see. You might be surprised.
