Hey Guys ... I have a Rem 742 and the only problem I have with it is the magazine release button/lever is too damn small and tight. It's bad enough now in the summer but I can't imagine how hard it will be with frozen fingers mid November lol. Does anyone know if an extended mag release exists for it and if so where?

never heard of one. they are a PITA for sure. on the other hand you don't want it to be too easy - I'd hate to be the 500th one to hit the mag release instead of the safety when a huge moose shows up...

lol ... I hear ya John ;)

I've been looking around and noticed there is a new style latch size 0 to 4 and a old style latch size 0 to 3 on Numrich's site (part #45). Any ideas on what the difference may be? I guess I will just email them to find out.

They are all shaped the same, just different "sizes" for fitting magazines to a rifle.
You can always take your mag release out and have someone weld an extension on it.

I just took my trigger assembly out to look at the size I have now and it's a 3 .. so even if the sizes were related to the amount of protrustion I would not be able to find anything larger.

While I had it out I clipped a couple coils off the spring and that seems to make a huge difference. It's still stiff enough that I won't accidentally release the mag but now I can use my index finger whereas before I needed to use my thumb.

Maybe if I come across a spare mag latch I will experiment with having a nub welded on and see how that feels.
