Rem 742 Magazine question

I should be very surprised if they don't- the 740, 42, and 7400 all take the same mag , the only difference is CALIBER- they're all 06 length mags and there's a spacer inside to fit the 308 family- afaik there's no difference between "old" and new style- I only have 1 742, and it's in 308, and I got my spare mags at wholesale sports- the baggie said genuine Remington parts, magazine, 740 series, fits 740, 742, 7400
the 7600 will fit as well, but you have no hold open device

The replacements work, but need fitting quite often. These are stamped metal mags and may be difficult to fit into your rifle and can cause malfunctions. If your replacement mag doesnt fit smoothly you will need a metal file and some patience. Just gently file the points on the mag that contact the locking mechanism inside the action. Keep filing and testing in your rifle until it slides in and out like the original. I have had to do this for my Remington 742 and Browning Bar for their spare magazines.
