Rem 783 PRS/Tactical Rifle Build - McGowen Making Prefits Now

Very interesting.

Have been a Savage guy for years, love the floating bolt head and barrel nut systems.

But having that as well as a stiffer action shape and more reliable ejection, all in a budget package makes me want to take a look.

I've been looking at barrel manufactures and contacting them regarding pre fit barrels, I'll post any responses as I get them
I notice PAC-nor shows on their web page prefit barrels for the 783

As per Jerry from mystic precision's advice I started contacting various barrel makers

I wrote
Hello,
I was wondering if there is any plan in the works to offer pre fit barrels for Remington 783,
This rifle is gaining popularity due to its great features and price point making it a ideal platform to build off of to produce a highly functional firearm in areas such as PRS, which is also gaining in popularity
I believe a quality barrel such as one of the fine offerings produced by your organization would be a wonderful complement to this set up
I'm hoping with great anticipation along with many others in the shooting community that this becomes a reality in the near future
Thank you for the great products already available, keep up the good work

First response;
At this time we are not considering it, however, I will pass this on to our development team.

Lilia didn't know what I was asking, I explained the barrel nut similar to savage
This is his response

I understand what you are looking for now. Unfortunately, I don’t think that is something we would be doing.

I would be looking at places that are already doing pre fits of some form.
A lot of barrel makers are probably getting more orders than they can fill quickly as is. No need to buy more tooling and add more headache.
I would also imagine most of the makers that do pre fits are focusing on the RPR there is a much much larger market for them.

These are politically correct ways of telling you that you are trying to shine a turd and they dont see the market for turd polish.
No poop here, I have a 7RM and it is a great Hunter, shoots 1 MOA easy at 100 yd. with federal blue box! Fairly light and looks robust great trigger for the price, so good I bought a 300WM and a .308. If they had 7mm-08 I would have one of those too!

Sharp shooter supply's response

Thanks for the inquiry but we have no intentions of doing work on any other rifles than the Savage rifles.
It would just be a hassle to have to switch tooling and machining back and forth all the time.
We stay OVER capacity just doing work on the Savages.

Correct on all counts.. Many barrel makers have no interest in making prefits for anything. Others have embraced prefits and making a small fortune with them.

Now to nudge them to new actions. A few have responded to me that their current volume of production exceeds their capacity to add any other options.

But as the market moves, one area may go down leaving capacity for another. Nothing is going to happen too fast in the gun industry and the glacier is moving so thanks to all that have shown an interest.

The Ruger PR is the current darling and alot of resources are being applied to this... Hoping to report prefits for these as well in due course...

Will keep everyone updated as info gets to me.

Thanks guys, keep bugging them all... and get those projects built and shooting. Snow is melting... somewhere :)

McGowen Barrels is gearing up to make prefit barrels for the Ruger Precision Rifle AND the Remington 783. WHOO HOO.

All contours and chambers are possible. Fluting, threading, Cerakoting, etc, etc,

I am working to find a supply for Rem 783 bolt heads. Will post pricing and ordering options as soon as I know myself.

PM or Email to get on contact list... It may be a month or so before they are ready to take orders so there is time to look over the options and get things figured out.

Fun, fun, fun....

Jerry
