Rem 783 - Some Range Testing - post 18

Their website is a work in progress. They aren't counting on having any attention yet based on talking with one of their reps via email.

Do we at least know where they are located?

Sent them an email will see what comes out of it... Don't like being a guinea pig...

Bah! I broke down and ordered one. I'll post pics and do an overview when it arrives (wont be for a while as release is not until Nov). But my order number appears to be 0002 lol. I am told they will be ODG.

Was the 399 US or Canadian?

Their website is sketchy as all get out though...

Jerry, you seem to have them in high regard. Who are they?

I am sure it's run by MDT,
If not, they are using MDTs pistol grip and magazine judging by picture.
Chassis sports what looks like a thumb shelf and a barricade stop in front of magwell (intergrated in it), look at LSS xl gen 2 and ESS for comparison and you'll see.

I completely agree with you. But then, why not market it under MDT's brand? They're well known, have a great reputation...

(I'm no business man, but I did sleep at a holiday inn last night...)

I am a self employed plumber with a 7 employee business.
Why i bring this up?

I suspect it may be the same thing as we see in the plumbing industry.
Let’s take Delta Faucets brand, as a real example.

The Peerless brand of faucets you see at Canadian Tire and such, are made by Delta.
It is not written anywhere on the box and is almost an industry secret.
But most peerless actually use same cartridges as low end delta faucets.

But since they are much cheaper, to the cost and to the feel, they are an inferior product to delta in many ways.
Now if delta was to put their name on it, it would be hard to distinguish their top end stuff to the cheaper stuff.
And people may start associating Delta as a cheap faucet.
We see this with many plumbing brands.

I suspect, but i may be wrong, that this is what is happening here.

That is an excellent analysis - not positive if that is the case with MDT & Oryx but that would make sense.

Maybe they will pursue and upmarket and lower market strategy. The higher-end with the ACC & ESS and maybe we will see their less expensive options migrate to Oryx. A Toyota & Lexus type strategy.

The ACC is a game changer for them. Before the release of the ACC you would not really see MDT products used by serious high-end competitors down in the US. I know a couple of them that are now using the chassis so maybe that has something to do with it as well.

Yes the car industry!
Another perfect analogy we could use.
Chevrolet<Cadillac
Ford<Lincoln
And so on

So the ACC would be the cadillac of chassis, while the oryx being the chevrolet type.

Too bad in other provinces, business registries are hard to search, and require subscription and money.
In Quebec, anyone can type my business name, and you see shareholder names and business adress.

If we could search the Oryx Chassis Inc. in the BC business registry the same way we can search my business in Quebec, we’d be geting better conclusions.

Cars are probably a perfect analogy.

MDT = Hyundai
Oryx = Kia

The ACC does seem like a nice chassis though. Perhaps akin to a top trim model Ford SUV. Not sure if Hyundai has something comparable.

Branding is not as much as preventing tainting a good name, as wanting superior products to stand out more, in my opinion.

One sure thing, whoever the heck is oryx, got us talking about them!

For anyone interested, just got this response to my e-mail:

As we finalize inlets we will be updating all the specs. We will initially be launching the Howa versions and then bringing other inlets online as production continues.

The weight of the chassis will be around 3 pounds

The length of pull will be adjustable with a spacer system and will start at about 13.25"

The forend will be just under 12" long.

I hope that answers your questions, if you think of anything else, please let us know.

And there we go, Oryx is the Chevrolet and MDT is the Cadillac
Which is a good thing really, as we now know the Oryx has a solid internal inlet, and should perform.
Just lacking a bit of wow factor and lacks many desired features, a good starter chassis.
