Purchased one the other day new, in 270 caliber
I must say, Remington put there model 700 sales in jeopardy.
The accuracy was 7/8" at 100 yards with factory
And reloads, we're only slight argentine grouping... was using 100 gr rem.bulk core.lokt
And 57gr of IMR4350, out of box, from a factory bore site
Was pretty much bang on at 25 yards, the action.is very sturdy
Fit and finish is A1!! no more rackety magazine.
The stock ergonomics WAAYYYYY better , for 495$
Shipped and taxes, there is in my opinion a better gun for the money.
The trigger is so user friendly for adj. One set screw and a jam nut
Sets to 2.5 lbs on my scale, puts my buddies 700 bdl in 270 to shame
In accuracy , fired same rounds in both guns, my 4shot group
Was 7/8" his was 1.5"
Tried factory ammo for fairness was federal premium 130
Sierra game king. .. I got a 1.10" group 4 shots
Is was still 1.6"
His gun is bone stock no bedding or floating job
The 783 comes pillar bedded ND full floated
I'm patting the Remington boys on the back!!!
WELL DONE...

I've tried to post pics , photobucket isn't working
I'll have to try another way, but the 783 is Remington new
Entry level gun, it's hard to beat for money

MUCH MUCH better than design than the 770.

Me thinks that Axis sales will be affected, once more see and handle the 783.

I was about to buy one, then a Vanguard S1 .270, wearing an epoxy bedded Boyd's stock, came up on EE, at a very reasonable price. Otherwise, I'd be shooting the 783, as well.

Great choice Rod!!!!! :)

I mean at the range my buddy bragged up his 270 bdl
Deluxe " rod dam.thing shoots like a.lazer" I said well
This is first rounds out of this thing, he said " Hmmm
Not sure they are gd as gd as bdl, so we shot them
And took time. Between shots , his gun wore a.leupold
Vx1 3x9x40, I swapped the Factory scope for my meuhller
4.5-14×40 APV, when the targets were compared he shook his head
And said " why the hell would they make a cheap gun out shoot there flagship.
It's exactly what they done with the 788, back in 70's I had 3 of them and have
Still my 1962 rem 700 also in 270, my 788's were 1 in 243, 1 in 308, one was 44 rem mag..
They killed my 700 in accuracy, again was Remingtons budget gun...

Well I can say my local shops have sold
Many more rem 783, and ruger Americans than any
Others, they say .Mainly due to optic included
And price is a big issue
A mod.700 sps runs you around 700$ taxes in shipped
For bare gun
My 783 ran me 495$ Shipped here taxes in
Incl a 3x9x40 scope, gun comes with fully adj trigger
It's pillar bedded and free floated
Some of those options aren't avail on 1000$ guns

I don't think the 700 is in jeopardy with these guns, different animals all together. I got one in 30'06 for $250 during Wanstalls sale last year ($299 and there was $60 in mail in rebates).
It does shoot well, the trigger is fine, but it's a cheaply made rifle from top to bottom. I still see them on sale for $350 with scope, usually Cabellas has them on...I'd skip the package as the scopes are not usually worth using.

Still a $40 mail in rebate on for these as well
