i need to track down a nice wood stock for a rem 788 in .243
nothing to crazy just something nice for an hunting rifle.
any ideas? buying a stock always seems so complicated.

I have purchased several stocks from Richard's Microfit Stocks out of the U.S. They have laminates, and several different walnuts and other woods to choose from. They do require final finishing and they can take a few months to get. I'm pretty sure they inlet for the 788.

Have you thought about going to an outfit with a duplicator? Lots of blank choices out there.
If interested in this route PM me for some contact info.

im looking for anything as long as its not a thumb hole...not picky just nice wood that needs minimal finishing

The factory stocks were sometimes in walnut, and then later in birch. All solid, but 'nice' is subjective - your opinion. So, if you are looking for a factory stock you could have a working piece of wood; otherwise you are looking at replacement stock. Depends on how much you want to spend and how much work you want to do. Sounds like you want it all, so you might have to make a choice.
