Does anyone know off hand if the lower hardwear is different for a inletted trigger guard stock as opposed to one that is not? They made two styles. I am looking for a LA stock RH non-inletted for a 6mm.....The 7mm-08,.308 + .243 stock is the same.

I have a 6mm left hand. The trigger guard has a bend that fits into the flat metal that the action screws insert into. I have not seen any other 788 calibre so can't compare, however believe the 788 6mm Rem is a "medium" action length vs. the 700 short or long.

There only two stock sizes. The .44 mag has it's own stock and action......otherwise between the screw holes distance is as follows..SA 6.75" and LA 7.1" Scope mts. are all over the map SA .44 LA .222 .223 22-250 + 30-30 XLA .243 6mm 7mm-08 + .308

I have owned 2. I found a LH walnut stock on here and apparently early production 788s did sport walnut. My two were 1976 and 1978 and the stocks were identical to the walnut (from 69 I think). I wasn't aware there were two styles, and do remember scope bases being labeled xla which was confusing. Of course the 6 mm in a 788 is a LA, now that I think about the 22-250 and 308.

I just sold a 788 6mm LH and the mts are marked XLA but the stock is really a LA just to confuse one.My buddy has every one they ever made except he doesn't want the LH models....................Harold
