I noticed that S.I.R. is selling them although I've yet to see one in a store.
I'm thinking I might need a new .375:dancingbanana:
Anybody bought or used one? Did you like it?

Yeah, I thought they were going to be a little less than a comparable 700.
Still a laminate '98 actioned .375 N.I.B. for under a grand aint all that bad.
I hope

Is a mauser action really that much more expensive to manufacture/import/OEM than a 700, or are they trying to capitalize on the cachet of the Mauser?

Yes to both. A 700 is simply a machined tube, much easier to do then the Mauser. And let's face it, Mausers have been around since there were bolt actions, they carry a lot of history with them. - dan

I read a review on an American forum on the Rem 799 Mini-Mauser. It didn't sound good. :(

Link, quote, copy?
I had figured they would have to have stepped up thier quailty, maybe not eh.

Those Mark X actions are well made modern alloy steel updates on the 98k action. I have a Mark X Mannlicher style .308 carbine with the flat bolt handle and it is a very accurate shooter and a reliable hunting rifle. Regards.

While the Mk. X action may not be the cleanest, smoothest action out there it is by far one of most reliable. Two years ago while working for a very busy local gun maker I can't remember a single mauser action that came in for repair. The same can be said for Savages. I lost count on the number of broken Winchesters (Defender shotguns were the worst) M700 with broken bolt handles, busted up extractors and ejectors were the most common. The M710 however are a complete absolute peice of crap. I know the Remington Warrenty man for this area and the amount of 710's dwarf everything else for problems. So I wouldn't worry about a smal cosmetic fit problem in regards to the feed rail not being super tight to the stock.

Good point, but I wonder what the ratio of Rem700s to MkXs is in your area or Canada for that matter.

Those were pre civil war rifles. From what I understand they were better fit, finish and the materials were higher quality.

I was in Wholesale Sports in Edmonton today and they have the 798's and 799's in the back but can't put them on the rack:confused: ....waiting for them to be registered...
