I've got the same book and while much of it describes things I'll never do it is still worth every cent.I've got a gunsmith's manual for 870 and 1100 shotguns from Brownells. It's by Jerry Kuhnhausen. However, it is a shop manual and so is less geared towards a person wanting to learn about techniques. It does contain valuable info regarding what to look for when malfunctions occur and what not to do. Worth the money in my opinion.
Yeah you can't beat these books for assembly/disassembly instructions and photos. However they are geared to a gunsmith (in my limited experience). Still extremely useful. And yes, 870's are one of the king's of accessories. It's a long story how my 400 dollar Express Magnum became a 1000 dollar plus boom stick.
