Rem 870 Books

870 Book

I've got a gunsmith's manual for 870 and 1100 shotguns from Brownells. It's by Jerry Kuhnhausen. However, it is a shop manual and so is less geared towards a person wanting to learn about techniques. It does contain valuable info regarding what to look for when malfunctions occur and what not to do. Worth the money in my opinion.

Hi: I have a book on mausers by the same guy coming any day now. I read that his books are the best.I was a bit surprised when i looked up all the mods you can get for these guns. Thank's Dan

Yeah you can't beat these books for assembly/disassembly instructions and photos. However they are geared to a gunsmith (in my limited experience). Still extremely useful. And yes, 870's are one of the king's of accessories. It's a long story how my 400 dollar Express Magnum became a 1000 dollar plus boom stick.

I've got the same book and while much of it describes things I'll never do it is still worth every cent.

The only criticism is that it was written in the early 90's and may not cover some of the adaptations introduced since then such as the J-lock, action bars or magazine spring retainer.

For assembly and disassembly go on youtube and type in "remington 870 assembly". These guns are incredibly simple to take apart, I wouldn't waste the cash on a manual.
 
Can't leave 870s alone

Yeah, I've just finished Parkerizing a Grizzly for my dad and it'll end up with over 150 bucks of new/extra parts (follower, side saddle, parkerizing, Gun Kote, stock, tritium bead sight...). Luckily I got married after my 870 project ended. Of course then a very expensive gun arrived in the mail shortly after we were married.......:redface:

And while the 870's are very easy to field strip I think we're discussing full disassembly down to individual parts (including trigger plate). I wouldn't want to tackle that without the proper manual.
