Rem 870 LEO top-folders -- really that bad?

... but i must admit im still tempted to get one so i can set up one of my 870s as a 'classic LEO folder'.

Exactly. Why not get the gauge a new Terminator outfit, especially if you have multiple 870's? Sure they break, they're far from the most ergonomic to shoot, but keeps your gun Remington and they are possibly the sleekest folder ever devised for the 870.

Wouldn't you enjoy having this in your possession? :D

Factory metal top folder...the coolest of the cool...what's not to love?
I don't find mine at all uncomfortable to shoot...and it's seen some hard use without breaking.
I have to wonder how you break a pistol grip if you have the stock dishing out the recoil...

Hey OldHack, is that the stock Remington barrel with the breacher stand off on that 870? or an aftermarket barrel? Thats a pretty bad ass looking shotty!

Thanks, Buzzballer. That's a current model 870 Tactical with stock barrel and breacher. Comes with a receiver mounted rail and XS Ghost Ring setup. I have a Butler Creek side folder so I can mount a SideSaddle with that on. I used to have the same style synthetic top folder and was able to mount a TacStar 6 rounder on it so it looked like:

I see they've used a sleeve on the newer version:

I guess it's a girl's gun.

I have this set up and will never get rid of it. Great for portability and the recoil...well it's a shotgun. I did have a chunk of plastic swiped off of the pistol grip many winters ago. I had too much oil on the plunger pin that holds the stock in place, and that froze it in position with the stock folded. When I unfolded it that pin didn't move out to engage, so it over-travelled and sliced off some of the plastic on the PG. Still functional, but I try to keep the oil off that part and open it more carefully.

I used a metal folder years ago and didn't mind it. I have an ATI one but am still looking for another metal top folder. Hard to come by now. Everyone makes the plastic ones, even a used metal one is hard to find. Everyone keeps them in the cabinet, "just in case".
If anyone is looking to make a little space in the cabinet let me know. :)

I'm still looking for just the pistol grip for a spare REM LE folder I have. No joy. Anybody?
