Hi all,

As the title suggests, I have a used 870 (very well used it seems) with a bit of play in the pump action. It has no feed or extraction problems as such.

To clarify, when I say play I mean it takes no force to start moving the pump from fore to aft for the first inch to inch and a half. This is best seen when placing the gun in an upright position: The effect of gravity alone will cause the pump to 'droop' down. It is not a big deal as it doesn't compromise function, but it is annoying to have to push the pump forward everytime I pick it up...

My question is, how hard would it be to fix this so the handle stayed in the full forward postion until actuated. Is it as simple as a worn spring that needs to be replaced or the result of accumlated wear in the action that is not easily fixed? Additionally, is this the halkmark of wear approching anything dangerous, ie do I need to have a 'smith check it out?

Any and all comments appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It's not broken, thats how they get with use, and frankley they cycle smooth like glass when they reach that point, its a good thing! As long as she stays in battery with a round up the spout your good!

Thank you for the quick replies!

Cocked & Locked,

It does stayed locked up nice and tight with one in the chamber- no problem there. The action is smoooooth as you pointed out. Certainly much nicer than any other 870 I have tried. One of the reasons I bought it.

Much appreciated again. Cheers.
