Going to be using my 870 super mag for turkey hunting in the spring. What choke should be used in it and any recomended type and brand of shot shell to use. Im new to the shotgun scene.

They are all different but I shoot a dedicated 870, SPS, undertaker choke and Winchester Supreme(black box) 2oz #6, 3.5". When sighting in I will warn you I have only been able to a max of 5 in one sitting and bruised to boot. They are brutal, you will be told the 3.5 is not needed, but they will kill turkey's very dead to 54 yds. Just be aware my gun shoots a golf ball sized pattern to about 17 yds so aim where the feathers meet the skin on the close ones

i have patterned as many as five different brands of ammo and choke combinations before finding a combination that shoots that great pattern. there is no round that will produce a perfect pattern in all guns . get together with some friends and have them bring various rounds and chokes that way you can split the costs of ammo to find what works best in a particular gun . it is a experiment as that is the only way to find what works in a particular barrel . there is a element of what i like to call black magic in a barrels ammo preference. good luck hunting and welcome to the world of shotguns.

I would suggest buying a after market extra full turkey choke. I have found with my testing Kick's and Indian creek to work the best. I would also suggest using shot size #5 as it will give you good pattern density and still pack a punch on longer rang shots. Try a few different brand specialty turkey loads to see which one patters the best in your gun. Winchester long beards are a good bet.
