Hi, what options do I have to upgrade the sights from the bead to "proper" sights on a 870 Tactical? The barrel it has does not have those. Is it doable, not too expensive? Go with a Super Nova instead since it already has the sights?

Now this might open up the whole "you do not need sights" on a shotgun, and I am all for reading your take on that. I am a rifle / handgun guy, so a sleek barrel with a small bead is strange to me.

Thanks!

I'd go Supernova, it's a better gun than any recently manufactured 870, unless you're planning on using the 870 as the basis for an extensively reworked custom build.

The Fabarm STF-12 is quite worthy of consideration also.

As far as beads go, I generally prefer them to other types of sights on a shotgun, unless I know I'm going to be doing a lot of shooting slugs at a distance.

Reason being they're very fast and provide the least distraction from your target {shotgun shooting is mostly target focussed, not front sight focussed}

Shoot a bead for 100 rounds of slug and you'll have no problems whatsoever. The bead may seem a little daunting for accuracy at first, but you'll soon realize how dead on it can be once adjusted.

Just remember, it's a shotgun not a rifle.

Shotguns are better operated if you learn to point rather than aim them. For that, fit can be important. Holding the gun, look at something, close your eyes and point the gun at it, then open them and see where the gun is actually aimed. This sort of thing drives riflemen crazy. Oh, and it does not apply to shooting slugs, at least not for me.
