Rem 870 vs. Norc HP9 vs. DomArms Grizzly

Okay - been trying to search CGN and find some opinions. Just wondering what everyone thinks of these various shotties. I'm looking to get a tactical shotgun.

So, here's what I've been able to find thus far:

- Remmington 870 - seems like the most popular, but price is an issue. I was thinking the Dlask 8.5", but once again price. Can find these all over in different sizes. Does the quality justify the price?

- Norinco HP9 - same quality as the Domion Arms (probably made in the same place), but you can only get the 14" version from Marstar. Good price and I've heard decent quality for the dollar.

- Domion Arms Grizzly - same quality as the Norc. Will come in different sizes, but not till late spring time frame. Good price and decent quality for the dollar. Some negative feedback on the quality of the finish.

So - thoughts / opinions?

Marstar has 4 different barrel length versions of the norc on the website; currently it only looks like the 14 and 18.5" versions are in stock though, but ya never know with the site and all.
 
Which Remington 870 are you comparing the HP-9 and DA Grizzly to? Police, Express, Wingmaster? For a tactical shotgun as you stated you would be looking at the 870 P. Big price difference between the 'P and the other 2 Remington models/'Chicom shotties along with quality as well of course. I have yet to read a negative comment on the Police model but some members here can attest to problems from time to time with the Express and Wingmaster.

Sorry - I'm not all that familiar with the different 870 models. I would assume the Police model...
 
My advice:

Buy a good used WINGMASTER 870 from the 1950s-1980s.
Quality+ at a very reasonable price. Check the Equipment Exchange or EE here on the board.
Why buy a clone, when you can have the real deal? (Not knocking the clones, mind you, but with so many real 870s out there why not buy the original?)

Then either have a gunsmith cut the barrel down or put a shorter (FACTORY-MADE) barrel on your Wingmaster action. (Check the regs before shortening for proper legal lengths.)

The approach above gets you a very-high quality shotgun cheaply.
The Wingmaster is a hunting shotgun and many fired only a few rounds a year.
There are some very low round count examples out there.

The fit and finish of these older Wingmasters is top notch--Solid steel
and carefully assembled.

Well there is a used 870 P in the EE for $450 if I'm not mistaken. New is about $650-ish with no extras last I checked.

The Police models are made in a separate section in the Remington factory. Built to Mil/LEO standards/specs. Check their site for more specs. Money well spent. And like most things you get what you pay for.
 
I was looking at the same things - ended up that a friend gave me his old 870
wingmaster so I lucked out there I do not know the age of mine but a wood plog in the magazine and a metal follower so probably has a few years on it.

I had pretty much settled on the 870 for quality anyways. I had handled the Norincos and the 870 just feels nicer and more solid to me. Just going to go and put a short factory barrel on it now.

Bonus to the 870 is lots are out there and they are a good price used and good quality.
 
Okay - so I'm picking up here that the 870's are better quality. I expected as much... I'm a big believer in you get what you pay for...

Thanks guys - now where do I get:

- Accessories (rails, tacsaddle, stocks, etc...)
- Shorter replacement barrells
 
Make sure you've got a mag that goes all the way to the end of the barrel! I say its wasted space otherwise. :D

If you're getting a 18" barrel, make sure to pick up a 6 round extension or whatever it is. I've got a Marine Magnum and the extra 3 shots really make a difference. Also make sure you get a nice sling.

I don't personally think the 870 needs a tactical stock to be tactical...simplicity is golden for real situations, in my opinion.
 
I'm very happy with my Grizzly and would recommend it if you want a 12" barrel. It's just so much cheaper than any other option considering that you want to spend a bunch more on tactical parts for it. Only thing is that it will not hold 4 3" shells (it will hold 3x3" and 1x2.75", however). I dont recall if anyone found a work-around.

But yeah, I have no experience with the other guns. I don't think any of your three options is gonna break on you.

For a defense shotgun, I like my HP9 in 14"... the grizzly is only 1.5" shorter, so I'm not missing much there.

It's light, maneuverable, and all parts are interchangeable with the rem 870. The parkerized finish is excellent (no complaints here), and the fit and finish is adequate.

It's also chambered for 2 3/4 AND 3" shells (which is awesome for extra firepower)...

HP9 is not parkerized. Somehow marstar made that mistake on their website.
