The list of differences between the Police models and Express don't necessarily apply to the older Police models. The receiver on mine is exactly the same as a Wingmaster of the same vintage (early 90's.) The wood that it came with was a plain birch stock and a forend that is identical to the one in the first post.

Exactly. There was once a time, as long ago as it sadly seems, when Remington did not charge customer a premium for quality control. Back then they didn't have to come up with a special "Police" version to address the shortcomings of their budget base-model, all 870s were high quality guns worthy of seeing duty in a police cruiser.
