rem 870 ?

Incidentally I'm just finishing up my third Remington 870 :p

Great guns. They fall into the classics category (1911, AR15, 10/22)

Welcome to the board. Tell me. How did you pick your name mr bumblebeetuna?

ever seen the movie ace ventura ?

its joke between my friends and myself from a seen in the movie where ace speaks to a aboriginal man and doesn't understand what he says says so his reply was"bumblebeetuna":D

also it can be found in the urban dictionary and means

" excuse me your balls are showing "

Also one thing that seems to get overlooked is the importance of how the stock fits you...this of course can be solved (lengthwise) by installing an adjustable butt stock.

Goto a local gunstore and handle them for yourself.

Also find someone in person that can show you how to select the proper fit for you, and what you will be using it for...hopefully they will have an open mind, and not be dripping with sponsor clothing. :D

I just got a new 870 express last fall with the laminate stock and I love it.
It works flawlessly and the laminate stock looks good too. Im not sure if it still available though, because last year it was mentioned on the remington site but this year they dont mention the laminate as a feature. SIR mailorder had lots in stock last fall.

Before I bought this I used my fathers mossberg 500 and as someone else mentioned earlier I like where the mossberg safety is better than the remy but I am used to it now. Also the mossberg I found was easier to shoulder. My new remy has a nice thick butt pad and I had to get used to throwing it out farther before I bring it back to my shoulder.

You should be happy with either choice but you will get a majority for the 870 on here. I know I went through it last year.:D

This is the best advice here yet. Don't just take someone's word as to what is junk or what's the best - every shotgun has its good (and bad) features. You just need to decide what you like and what you can afford. In the end, they all make the same noise! Or just get one of everything:D

I highly recommend the 870.
I agree, buy an older version--better quality and not many really shoot 3 inch shells it seems.
I would suggest a Limbsaver recoil pad--great for soaking up the recoil.

I like them and as of recently, I own two Wingmasters. Some non-black gun photos :p

#1 870 Wingmaster field gun, 3" chamber, 28" barrel, screw chokes - out hunting.

#2 870TB trap gun, 2-3/4" chamber, 30" barrel, full choke, Pachymeyer recoil pad - nice wood, better finish IMO on this 1976 vintage shotgun.

Those pictures are not welcome here, they do not belong on this forum. That gun actually has wood on it. We prefer to look at things with black plastic everywhere. And if there are no metal folding stocks or barrels more than 14" were not interested. Not to mention there is no, protruding flashlights or bayonets. You could never take something like that to the Mall. What's wrong with you? . ;) ;) Nice 870's

Actually, despite my early post automatically praising the early 870's, I think whoever mentioned seeing what fits you best had the right idea. Fit doesn't matter as much for rifles as they're usually shot from a stationary position. A shotgun's meant to be swung...and a bad fit can destroy your swing pattern/ range of motion / "canting", etc.

All said though, an older 870 is one hell of a gun...I just picked another one off of the EE.
All camo, Ducks Unlimited, 28" vent rib w/ screw in chokes, synthetic. 250$ price tag?

Get your EE access...best thing you could do for yourself.

Well, I took my evil, wooden, long-barreled clay destroyer out and scored well (a best for me) on the first night out with it. It seems to fit me well and I immediately improved on the straight away shots with the 60/40 setup. My shoulder likes the Pachymeyer D550 decelerator recoil pad and the slightly heavier gun a lot.

You black gun guys - I must be the last young (35-ish) person on earth that only has a hard on for wood and blued steel ;) If I ever get into handguns, I see a revolver in my future...

A lightly used Wingmaster is a hell of a deal. They're so common, the prices are low. Look for screwin chokes, or find one with IC (or have a gunsmith ream out the fixed Full choke to IC). The money you save by buying used can be put towards ammo.
