is it worth the money, is it as good as remington makes it out to be if not what would you reccommend?

I have a hard time believing it is a good as the 870, Remington is not the first company to clone the 870. But I voted yes as its worth a try. it is definitely priced right, and I've never heard anyone say it didn't throw up well.

I got one in last summer, wish i waited now there $100.00 CHEAPER, about 250 rounds thought it of target load,3 1/2 # 2's and some old imperials that i had kicking around. Not one problem very little kick and smooth-quik reload.A freind of had one about 6-700 rounds thought it and he's started holding shells in the barrel on 3 1/2's. Barrel went ovel.Keep in mine he also use to clean his gun in the river. I think u just have to what for barrel temp because the nitro does'nt get hot do to the armorlok.5 rounds of 3 1/2 and u can gab the barrel and carry away, that can be a problem,( too hot inside the barrel.

I looked at the reviews, there american they were'nt avail in canada till aug-sept of 09.I found the slide smooth and no rust and rail is straight. If you would like one you need to go and put one in your hands, make your own choice.Right now there $370.00 at ellwoods.Even if you use it for a year and melt it down after for that money you can't expect perfect.

I find it amusing someone complains about a tupperware stock on it. What the frig were you expecting? High end walnut?

Anyways. Buy on older 870 Wingmaster. Top quality. And you wont be spending too much, so whoc ares if the nice finish gets scratched up?

Hey I was the guy quoted about the "Tupperware Stock" and rusty mag tube!:nest:

I have said this before. Firearms are not toasters where if you get a dud it no big deal, take it back and get another. Shotguns, rifles and handguns have the potential to kill some one if shoddy production and quality standars are followed, there are way too many complaints about slam firing on these 887's. With Remingtons responses (preproduction models?) it sounds like a company on it last legs trying to stay afloat, which personally I hope is not the case. Italians make more money and have better benefits than North Americans so how can Benelli make a simlar piece, the Nova, for basically the same price and have three times the quality?

The problem with bad reviews is most of the time the guys writing the reviews have never had anything to do with the review their writing. People love to bad mouth things they don't have. If they see it and they don't like it, they will convince you why you shouldn't like it either. What are the odds of a pumpgun going off on it's own when you close the slide? While it could happen, it's probably not very likely. Of course I'm sure there will be a comment about that like "I know a guy who had that happen to him so your full of s**t" but I'll get over it. Actually, I saw somthing similar happen once with a rifle of mine. My friend was using my lever action .30-30 for the first time, he loaded the magazine and racked the action from the hip and the rifle went off. He swore it just went off on it's own and I may have been inclined to believe him if it wasn't for the fact I saw his finger in the triggergaurd when he closed the lever, discharging the rifle. He swears he didn't do that, but I saw it. Now if my friend started to tell his story, pretty soon everyone would know for a fact Marlin rifles are dangerous because the hammer can fall on a loaded round when cycling the action on it's own. Next there will be more guys who come out of the woodwork and say they had that happen too, and the next thing you know the rifles are obviously garbage and unsafe to use. Now I just cracked out one of my pumps and tried to get the trigger to pull on closing, I couldn't. You must release the trigger before it will fire on the second pull. however I've seen guys, especially when being cool and shooting from the hip both pulling back on the fore end and pushing foward on the gun at the same time. I tried that and sure enough, the gun would 'fire' and it would appear it was almost seamless as if the gun just went off. And if your not paying attention you could pull the trigger. How many times have you seen a guy grab a gun and when he does his finger is automatically on the trigger? I've preached it time and time again, unless you know for a fact that somebody has tried somthing, don't believe them. I could tell you I own a Ferrari and you would have little reason to doubt me, but I don't. But I could also tell you I'm not such a fan of Ferrari's so I'm constantly critisizing Ferrari based on nothing but my inexperiance and personal disdain that has zero relivance or credibility other then I just don't like them. (I'm being fasecious, I think Ferrari's are way cool) If pressed, the guys doing the biggest bashing wil almost always tell you they don't own one (whatever the topic may be) but they've heard enough stories...

i,m just saying no prob's on my nitro (knock on wood),now that camo is under 500 i'm thinking of getting another one. They are sicky and hard to pump untill you get that factory wheel bearing grease out that remington packs in everywhere. You pay for what you get. only thing price wise is stoger p350,mavrick or cheap winchester and no thanks.

i got my 887 a last january and i have no complaints, i have fed a 1000 or so shells through it from 2 3/4 up to 3 1/2 without any issues....the gun seems to be thicker then my uncles old 870 wingmaster but the 887 seems to fit me more comfortably. best thing i can suggest is go get one in your hands see if its comfortable. definetly a good gun in my books though

The "slam fire" issue in question has been traced back to a faulty firing pin that gets caught slightly forward in the bolt due to allegedly poor metalwork/metalurgy. Therefore round goes in, rack goes forward, gun makes big noise. With no finger on the trigger. Hopefully something that Rem has addressed but IMO not worth the chance when there are plenty of other synthetic guns out there. Check out this link for an explanation straight from the proverbial horses mouth.

His post (jdiaz) is about halfway down the page, makes for some interesting reading, especially Rem's customer service and his ultimate opinion of it.

Cheers
