I'm looking for a clone action based on the Remington 700 short
For a 6.5 creedmoor project. Looking for ideas on manufacture and
What's is valuable on the market there's days. Willing to spend around $1000.00 mark.

1000 for a custom action? You may have to come up a bit.

GAP Tempest would be my choice ( 3 lugs and AW mags:d) but there are lots of options out there.

Stiller will run you about $1500 right now maybe a bit less, for $1000 budget your options for a custom action right now are about zero. You could buy a rem 700 action and have it trued up, add a good recoil lug and a bolt knob and you should be able to do that for about $1000

Action - Model S, .308, Lefthand, w/ Ejector
Model S Action: A cylindrical Remington 700 type action, with the same diameter receiver, action mounting screw positions and bolt turn down position as the Remington 700 short configuration action. But in the Barnard three lug configuration and so "not a drop in" for the Remington 700. Single-shot configuration only, in either true left or true right handed configuration. The S series...

Things have really gone up in price the last couple of year. The last stiller action I purchased about 6 years ago and I paid $800.00 for it.
I have no issues with a Remington but just wanted to try something different.

With all the good feedback l need to readdress my budget and maybe dish out more cash. Or just buy a Remington 700 sps and part it out and save the action.
I appreciate all the feedback

I would second the Pierce, or any of the other actions mentioned for that matter and could name a few more. Like anything, if you want high quality, the price will likely match. That is not to say the more expensive $2500 action would necessarily be any better than say the $1500 Stiller.

If a guy was going to pick up an SPS just for the action, by the time the smoke clears he could easily have spent $1100-1500 on: The cost of the rifle, the cost of blueprinting, and the cost of adding features like side bolt release. In the end it would still be an R700 action.

For my cash, I would go with some sort of a custom, even if I had to save up a little more.

I spoke with a Bob Gallaway maybe a year ago about those actions, and he didn't recommend the piece actions. He's a good shooter and smith himself, and I don't think he had anything to gain from it. He pointed me towards stiller and some other makers for short actions for getting the same performance or better at a better price. I'm pretty sure piece actions are good actions though.
