Rem clone action what's available

For that budget it will be hard. We have a Bergara precision action coming in. It is the same one they use in there higher end precision rifle builds. Wouldn't put it on par with a full custom but it has some nice features. Fluted bolt, side bolt release, oversized knob. We would still true it up, but it looks like it will retail for about $975 and truing is only another $125.

For customs, check with Gary at Bighorn for Stiller or Defiance. But last I priced the Defiance are 2-2300k depending on model and the Stillers are $1500-1600

Check with Insite Arms for Surgeon
Check with R*P*S International for Bat, but those will definitely be over 2k

It makes little sense to have a custom built on an untouched factory action...and with the cost of truing it up you may as well buy an aftermarket one because it will always be Remington.

Ive seen a lot of customs built on Reminigtons that shoot just as good as a full custom though. And if that's what it takes for someone to be able to afford to get into it, who is to judge? Not everyone can afford a Defiance, Surgeon, or Bat. A tried Remington is only gonna cost $800-850 trued with a bolt knob installed and will get a guy on the right path.

I spoke with a Bob Gallaway maybe a year ago about those actions, and he didn't recommend the piece actions. He's a good shooter and smith himself, and I don't think he had anything to gain from it. He pointed me towards stiller and some other makers for short actions for getting the same performance or better at a better price. I'm pretty sure piece actions are good actions though.

I am surprised given how many national, state and local matches shooters with Pierce receivers in the US have won.

US national champ used a Pierce. We will see the gear list from the Berger SW but I expect to see a whole bunch given the shooters that were there.

I have been enjoying a Pierce Titanium FTR single shot for the last year and a half.... it works very nicely.

A bunch have gone into custom rifles for both competition and LR hunting. We have received a heap of positive feedback and alot more rifles built by the same owners.

They are working for a growing number of very decerning competitors and users....

You should also look at the Barnard actions. They make a model that is very close to a drop in 700 clone. Minor fitting required for most stocks, so depending if you are thinking chassis or stock this may be an option. Hirsch has excellent pricing on them right now. Must be because the are coming in from Europe that they aren't getting pounded as hard on the exchange. Short actions are about $1,400 and these are butter slick actions. 3-lug. Very nice.

I would be surprised if any good gunsmith that had actually handled a Pierce would recommend that they not be used. They can be purchased in the same price category as the Stillers, and IMO are higher in quality...

The only reason lm going for a Remington clone is I have AICS stock and a jewell trigger already. Theve been collecting dust for about 5year and would like to finally do something with them. And in the past I have rebarreled Remington 700 with no issues at all. I just would like to have something different.

mag feed actions are different then single shot so some of the choices may not have as highly regarded cross over from single to mag feed. and using the AI chassis eliminates a great Canadian action PGW

options for mag feed
Defiance
BAT
Kelbly Atlas
Surgeon
Borden Alpine

Stiller
Barnard (not sure AIC compatable)

Remington

check out the PRS blog they have actions usage breakdown and talk with Kombayotch he is the only guy i know that runs 1000's of rounds through a mag fed rifle each year.

Best of luck
Trevor
