Just picked up a older wingmaster shotgun, I plan on using this for duck hunting this year. The barrel has a screw in full choke that says steel or lead. I was under the assumption the steel shot shouldn't be used with full chokes.
Anyone use one?

Most chokes marked full steel from that era are actually modified. We have an older 1187 and A500 and both throw the best patterns using improved cylinder chokes. The MOD or Full Steel throw very irregular and inconsistent patterns using steel even though marked steel compatible. The good news is that these chokes are easy to find and relatively cheap compared to the latest and greatest.

Do you really need to use the Full choke? My default is always IC with steel over decoys, and only when the birds are staying out will I consider Mod.

I'm only going to have time this year for opening day, thats the only rem choke I have at the moment was wondering if I could use it for the day. I dont want to damage the barrel.either.

It likely measures as a modified or less. Some manufacturers do it this way (ie full for steel). Does it pass a dime? If it does, its not a traditional (lead) full choke.
