As far as I know all Remington Model 700 actions are identical wether it's 700P, LTR, SPS, SPS Tactical, SPS Varmint, ADL, BDL, CDL... etc, etc...

I'm only talking about the action itself, no barrel, no trigger, no stock, nothing... just the action. Is this accurate?

Thanks guys... oops and gals. :D

Sorry Guntech it is too vague.

I'm wondering about the 700 S/A, minus the bolt.
I'm looking at where the shells come up and feed, specifically the lips (for lack of a better word).

I've heard some say that if you go to a detachable mag that you can never go back to a hinged floorplate because it has to be modified to feed properly with a detachable mag.

Thanks
Johnny

the feed rails and a few other things can vary between actions.

ie: a short action for a 308 based case will have different feed rails than one made for the 223 case,or the SAUM/WSM cases....like you mentioned, the detachable mag actions haven't any feed rails at all so they can't be converted to a floorplate or blind mag

As stated above the feed rails vary from the smallest/largest, skinniest/fattest cartridges and there are no feed rails for the detachable magazine models...

... and then some are made truer than others (completely by chance)

Judging by your information (and thank you for that) would it be safe to say that a 700 ADL in 308 would have the same action as a 700 SPS Varmint in 308?

Both are S/A, they would have the same bolt face obviously and even though one has a hinged floorplate and the other a blind style magazine, the feed rails would be indentical as well, is this correct?

Thanks
Johnny

Correct! There have been some small subtle changes that are mostly cosmetic over the years, but one that is functional is the bolt guide rail that is not there in the first production models. This commercial action has formed the basis for more custom rifles than all others combined, I would be willing to bet. Regards, Eagleye.
