I've got a problem I've never run into before.
A fellow brought out a Remington Model 7 - the one with lock on the cocking piece shroud. The bolt will not close with the firing pin and cocking piece installed as the cocking piece is locked. Nor will the firing pin drop.
Neither of us has the J key to unlock the thing. I suspect the bolt was opened and the cocking piece was locked - then there i suspect a lot of force to attempt to close the bolt.
My question, how do you disassemble the cocking piece with the lock jammed and locked on the Model 7.

Find someone with a J lock key and unlock it.If you can't find someone, or a dealer that will let you borrow one, contact Remington, they may even send one out for nothing.

Thank you. We did find a J key, unlocked the safety mechanism with the bolt out of the gun, installed the bolt - problem solved.
Now the question remains -how did this get locked if the owner does not have the J key?
Apparently it is not possible to disassemble the bolt when the safety is locked.
