Rem Model 710 7mm .... Opened the box on the range :)

If a GUN OWNER is happy with his or her FIREARM, that is a beautiful thing. They are one of us, NOT somebody who is opposed to firearms ownership.

I met a young lad this fall out in BC who had his first hunting rifle. It was an old, very scarred, pitted, sad .303 sporter with no magazine. He was as proud as punch about that rifle and when I gave him a mag for it, I don't think he could have been more pleased. That young fellow is one of us, too.

So for pete's sake let's not chuck #### at our brothers and sisters in the firearms community over their choice of one shootin' iron over another one.

EH?

Knock the 710 if you like, but I like mine. With my reloads I can shoot 1 inch groups easy and have taken probably 100 groundhogs with mine out to 250yrds+, a coyote and two deer. Some hate'm I like'm.

Well said Doug, I couldn't agree more. As long as you are happy with your rifle, thats whats important. My first rifle was an old Lee Enfield that I bought when I was 14. I hadn't even had a pellet gun before that, I had to use my older brothers. But when I got that .303 I thought I had the world by the tail. Actually the frist morning that I took it out deer hunting I shot my first deer with it too. :D 8) I haven't shot it in years, but thats one rifle I'll never get rid of.

I just use the cloth camo tape, it eventually gets worn a little and I remove and then replace with some new stuff every year. I think it looks ok. I might try the beartooth products this year I have that stuff on my shotty.

Bring on the 710 flamers !

Not entirely true, as this thread was initiated by cityhunter with the invitation to "bring on the 710 flamers!", and the flames were brought on.

SC..................

Good point!

Cityhunter, I hope you enjoy your POS as much as I enjoyed my POS.

I understand that there are people out there that buy Hyundais and Ladas to drive and they do get around most of the time.

LOL Lada's They haven't sold one here since like 1989???? I drove the #### out of one, couldn't kill the P.O.S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 350,000KM.

Count on a 710 thread to generate 3-4 pages of responses!!!!

Personally I would rather spend the same money on a good used rifle... $500 can buy a lot around here.

Personally, I have seen a lot of problems first hand with the 710. Always saw them getting brought back for repair. I hope yours lasts until you get truly hooked and buy something like a 700, M70, M77....

nice camo 710, looks like it gets the job done

but still, you can only polish a turd so much, in the end you're still playing with ####

Gun ownerships is a case of whatever floats your boat. Some like the savage lever guns, i dont. Some like muzzleloaders, i don't. Some like the .260, i don't  . If you're on a budget and looking for a decent new hunting rifle, cheap, with a scope included, then the 710 fits your bill. I wouldn't bring a 710 to the 1k range either. But then, if i had been on a budget, i couldn't possibly have afforded the rifle i just ordered: 700p, burris xtr 312, farrel 20 moa base( from Rick@ATR) and burris sig zee rings.

Like i said, whatever floats your boat. As long as we have a new shooter, i'm all good with the 710

You can't polish a turd, Beavis.

You two are either speculating or speaking from experiece; neither option casts a flattering light.

I've heard the 710 described as the "inflatable doll" of rifles, I took this to mean that they both float but prhaps I'm being Naive?

I was close to buying a 710 just to see what it would be like, back in spring of 04

glad I came to my senses when I held one in the gun shop. $400 I'd never get back, even if I resold it, I doubt I could get $300 for it.

Savage 200 would be a much better rifle, at least you can say its made out of steel

I'll say it again for the newbies... Remington 710 is the bic lighter of firearms :!:
If you bought one you obviously didn't read the many reports from avid and knowledgeable shooters and hunters on this site.
Or you did read them and chose to ignore the advice and opinions that were posted.
Whatever, you fellas that have the 710 and like them are welcome to them. 8)
But your not going to convince even a small percentage of people here that they are a worthy or valid first choice in an economy firearm

totally agreed, I dont mind the fact they own them, and it wouldn't stop me from hunting with a guy who owned one, I'm just saying I don't think they're all that great of a choice...there are numerous rifles that are in the same price range that are of higher quality, that have much more resale value down the road. I'd think that whoever bought a 710 will probably either a) sell it down the road when he/she is in a better financial position to afford a higher quality rifles or b) gets so discouraged with a POS plastic teflon rifle that he/she gets frustrated enough to stop shooting altogether

Again I will say it, I'd of opted for a Stevens 200 or a Savage package rifle...you'd be miles ahead.

enjoy your time in the field with your new 710 though...
