I was given a Rem. model 760 that has been painted. I want to remove the paint. To clean the forstock I would like to remove it. The Rem. web site only shows a model 7600, similar action but mine has a welded support from the barrel to the front of the pump slide. How do I get the forestock off? There appears to be a pin at the front of the slide tube do I need to punch this out?

There should be a large screw in the end of the forend. This is what holds the wood on the metal. Remove it and pull the wood off the metal.

Both guns in top pic are 760s. The one one left is the "new style" 760 which is the same as the 7600s. The one on the right being the "old style" and is a bit different.

The lower pic shows the forend tube on the "old style". This tube is in fact a long bolt that holds on the forend and also holds the barrel onto the reciever. The holes on the tube in front of the forend are used for removal of the tube. I use a screwdriver which fits through both holes tightly to screw this tube off the bolt stud on the reciever.
