Rem Model 770 or Savage 111

For the same $$ get a Marlin XL-7. The scopes that come free on those rifles are junk anyway, that's why they are free.

deffinatly savage .my son has the .243 pkg.rediculously accurate for the money.little bugger continusly embarrases my friends when we go shooting.:D
I talked to a guy in the local gun shop here that was trying to flog his 770 as after each shot he was having so much trouble cycling the bolt.head space ? just a garbage rifle.

I have a savage 111 package rifle in .270. I've long since upgraded the scope but it's a great gun. The 111 is just a classic 110 but with a synthetic stock. The trigger is ok but can be made good with the turn of a single adjustment screw. The removable box mag is good and the accuracy is out of this world.

The bluing is not as good as what you would get with say a vanguard and there are many flaws visible when you shine a flashlight at it but it's a great working rifle!

The Remington is total garbage!

For what its worth, the Marlin xl7/xs7 is better then either the savage or the remington.
X2!

I've tried both the Savage and the Marlin XL7. The Marlin fits & feels like a Remington 700 and will shoot right there with the Savage. They are a great deal. c/w a good trigger, nice pad, Remington style safety, comfortable stock, 1pc scope base.

Another vote for the Marlin XL7. As Supercub mentioned, they have a nice adjustable trigger and a recoil pad that actually works. It's replaced my Ruger as my go to deer rifle. I've never shot a Savage, but have heard nothing but good things about them.

Here is my 100yrd. pic.

Some people are even very happy with their Remington 710s and 770s, but too many aren't compared to the other low-cost rifles like the Savage packages, Stevens 200, Marlin XL/XS7 series. Get the Savage.
