Rem Mountain Rifle

Mountain Rifle

Bought my .280 "Mountain Rifle",new in '86. Wholesale Sports claimed it was the first shipped to Canada (for what that matters). Anyway, had wanted one since first reading the gun magazine reviews, remember this was before the Internet! Anyway, shot 1"/100yards out of the box, topped with a Leupold VXIII 2.5-8. Took several great bucks with it over the years. Not my main deer rifle these days, but will take it when I go for sheep/goats someday. Wouldnt part with it for anything, think I paid $480 back in '86.

I know you've all seen this one before, but ........................

It's a long action 700 with King bbl in 257Roberts. It shoots too. Scope has been swapped out for a 2x7Leupold with Tally LW rings. :)

Here's my 7mm-08 'Mountain Rifle'... [with Leupold VXII 3-9x40mm in Burris "Z" rings on Weaver bases].

Actually, a standard Rem 700 in a 'Mountain Rifle' stock... [stock courtesy of 'SuperCub']...

As you can see below, my 700 Stainless Synthetic Mountain Rifle (.30-06)features the "Tupperware" stock and a blind magazine. That doesn't stop it from putting the first three shots into half a minute or less. As I've said in other posts before, the load I'm using these days is 64 grains of Vihtavuori N560 pushing a 168-grain Barns TSX at a solid 3,000+ fps over the chronograh. It's loud and it kicks much harder than your average .30-06, but it works like magic in this rifle.

Clearly, this Muley from November '06 is not a fan of it.

FYI: The reason why the barrel looks black is because I've covered it with hockey tape in order to keep shiny reflections (and heat mirage) down.
